  1. I like Para mags with Dawson basepads, always gives me 20 reloadable rounds. My PXT1640 has over 5000 rounds with Power Ext. without a single problem(unless you count missing the link after cleaning).

  2. Me too! You almost need to be an attorney to understand some of this stuff. I give a lot of credit to all of you that RO. You have to know, remember and understand all of these rules AND be able to make split second decisions... Bravo!

You do not need a law degree, just the ability to see the the bends of the line in the gray areas. Thanks to ALL ROs and to each one here that makes us stop and think about our sport.

  3. From the rules section of the match:

"Shotguns: pump or semi -auto allowed. Maximum of 9 in rounds the gun at any time, no

ported barrels or choke tubes allowed, no optics, no speed loaders or devices allowed."

I could/will ask the MD, I just thought maybe it was common to shoot without choke tubes. It does seem strange to me.

Thanks for the responses, I could always shoot my back-up, 1300 pump 18 1/2" cyl bore.

This means the choke tube can not be ported. such as extened tube with porting.

  4. In Limited Division (some of us have no class) I use Para tubes with just adding Dawson basepads. This combo leaves a very small gap, but do fit in the gauge and will hold 21 rounds very tight, but only 20 loadable. Some people are claiming 22 rounds with Arredondo basepads, if that is the case those basepads would have to very, very close in the gauge. I have heard that some Arredondo basepads will crack if dropped on a hard surface.

  5. Are you shooting tight groups, but to the right? At what yardages are you shooting? Do you shoot to the right if firing from a benchrest?

You might give this a try. Take your AR (unloaded ) with a long magizine in it, face a full length mirror, close your eyes and bring the AR up to your shoulder several times, when it feels very comfortable, open your eyes to see if the AR is canted or rolled to the left. By using the longest mag that you have, it will really stand out if the gun is canted or rolled over.

  6. I'm getting 17 in P16 mags with the wolff springs and everything else stock. Would suggest the Bolen 11 coil spring with Bolen follower and the DP Para bases. This is a pretty solid setup which should go 20 easily. I haven't built mine up yet, but this is the way I intend to go.

Does Bolen make a follower that will work in Para tubes?? STI followers will not work in my Para tubes without moification to them. Stock Para mags with DP +4-5 Para basepads will easily hold 20 laodable with just cleaning up the tubes. Both of my Para 1640 like the lighter springs so the stock spring have worked for me and much easier to load.

  7. the MecGar are shorter.

Some of the STI shooter have found that using DP Para basepads will allow them to load more rounds, looks like a legal basepad, but will not fit the gauge on STI tubes.

  8. Aiming through a mesh/snow fence wall is not a penialy. Shooting through a mesh/snow fence wall normal is a penialy, because all walls, and barrels are normal considered hardcover. The key phrase is mesh wall and not mesh softcover. Most of the time the WSB will state this at clubs that use them. Snow fence walls are lighter and if in an area gets a lot of wind, they will remain standing better.

  9. You need to look at the rear of the mags. Are they orginal with a U shaped cutout or have you filed them down to be squared?(they need to be squared) Where are they hitting? To see better you should remove the grips to get some light on the mag. You can use White-Out on the mag and let it dry then put the mag in and it will show you where it is hitting. You will have to do some tuning that may require filing and bending on the mags to get the clearance that is needed. Have you installed a STI or at least a Stainless steel mag release? The EGW SS release works real well.

After all of this trouble you may still only get 19 loadable rounds in a USPSA limited mag. Para mags with Dawson +4-5 basepads will always give 20 loadable that fits the gauge. All Mags require a little tuning to work 100% every time. After you get your mags to work in the gun then it time to work on get the mags to come back out. The mag tubes without the spring, follower or baasepad installed should fall out of the gun when the release is engaged, without touching the mag tube or shaking the gun.

  10. Watching a lot of shooters as an RO, the one thing that I see that is not talked about by very many shooters during the draw is when to click off the safety. Personnally I try to keep the safety on until the gun is coming near the target after the gun is in a firm grip with both hands and the finger outside of the trigger guard, but have seen many, many shooter not clear the holster before hearing that click sound. I agree with all above Dry fire, Dry fire and then dry fire some more, but do it with purpose and safely.

  11. Cool...

Oh and Elynch...3 gun is what my final goal will be but I got to walk before I can run. Done plenty of rifle competition at the national level but I got to work on handgun and some shotgun before I go on 3 gun. I also need to work on a gun for that, seems that the Saga12 slightly modified is the popular gun out there, may search for one this year and try 3 gun next year. Either the Saga or thinking of a M4 but I think the Saga will end up cheaper as long as I don't go crazy with mods.

The Saga is a great shotgun, but you will be placed in open in USPSA because of the box magazine of the Saga. We all need to walk first, seems some of us are still walking even after a few years of shooting. The M series work very well and the easiest to weak hand load in tactical or limited, and have a advantage in the FB 3 Gun rules. I use a CR Speed holster for my Para's when shooting limited or limited 10. I was not sure if the LDA Limited in your question was for the model LDA Limited or for LDA in Limited division.

  12. I use a bladetech for 3-gun and production with my 1640 LDA. For carry I use a leather holster that can be carried in vertical, FBI cant, or flat for small of the back. The LDA hammer will stick up just a little bit higher that a 1911 when carried with a round in the chamber and most holster with a strap will need a little trimming done so the straps will snap. If you find a holster that fits a Para or 1911 they are generally made to carry cocked and locked with the strap under the hammer or with the hammer all the way down.

  13. If we are wishing, how about a 6 in. 1640 stainless limited with a wide dust cover and a Dawson Ice magwell. I would install my own skateboard tape and even the Dawson if they would make the Ice magwell again for a Para. If nothing else I woiuld like to see PARA be more involved in USPSA again. That is a good start for my wish list.

  14. If you have +4/5 basepads and they only will hold 18 then the follower is hanging up where the basepad meets the mag. It may require a little cleaning up of the bottom of the mag or the bottom edges of the follwers. Take the basepads off the mag and slide the follower still on the spring straight out and back in to see if it hangs up coming out of the mag.
