  1. Recently picked up a Scorpion.  I have short thumbs.  I put a Magpul grip on it and replaced the stock thumb safeties with the long PMM thumb safeties.   The PMMs are still a little too short for me to flip them reliably.

The AK reverse safety doesn't seem like a good option due to the fact that the trigger finger would be moving away from the trigger when it should be getting on the trigger.

    Any recommendations???

    Thanks

  2. Anyone have any opinions of how loud something like this would be with minor reloads, say 125gr around 125pf with a faster powder like CSB1.  I assume it would not be anywhere near as loud as a typical open major blaster, but would it be considerably louder than a typical non comped 9mm?

ETS mags have always been crap.  I shoot a fair amount of outlaw matches in my area which often attract newer shooters, who statistically speaking, own Glocks, and frequently have ETS magazines. They choke all the time.  I wouldn't own any of their mags if they were free ( unless I specifically wanted to practice malfunction drills lol).

I recently bought some ETS mags, Glock 10mm 20rnders, and a M&P 9 20 rnder.   Mine were all junk.  So bad I would feel bad about giving them away for free.  Like you said, good for malfunction practice only.  Too many problems for a practice mag.

Is it for competition or just for fun?

Competition, fun, but I want it to be useful for defense also.  Doesn't need to be a great performing hollow point, but good accuracy is important.

It will likely be shot in an M&P pro, STI, AR 9mm, M&P Shield.

Get the Hahn dedicated mag block (adapter).  The dedicated version goes in from the top and is held in place by the bolt release.   I shot a Colt SMG mag fed PCC for many 1000's of rounds a couple of yrs ago with the Hahn and it was flawless.  They are not cheap (around $200) but worth it if you want to stay with the platform.

I got the Hahn.  It is working great so far, even with my RMR hollowpoints (only a small sample size of hps though).

    Thank you all.

Will it run hollow points reliably?

I fought with a mag block for over a year with the same issue and it was the Macon Armory design. It would run good for a while then start having issues where the block had moved up in the magwell. The only real fix for this is a dedicated lower or permanently affixing the mag block. I chose a dedicated colt mag lower.

Which lower?  Will it run hollow points reliably?

    How much?

  8. I'm running colt style mags for my pcc and using a bottom inserted mag block.   After a handful of mag insertions the mag block gets pushed up slightly which starts causing malfunctions.  Mag block feed ramp starts feeding the rounds too high.

Any recommendations to fix this issue?   Should I consider a new lower receiver?

I do not want to switch to glock mags.

Then don't load long. If it will feed an normal OALs, why bother?

It won't reliably run my rmr JHPs that I had to shorten to 1.08 to fit in the chamber.  Now I am wondering if it would feed JHPs at 1.14ish.  That is what my fmjs are at.

I believe the misfeeds may be hitting to high.

They do have a gap between the mag and chamber but they also all have a built in feed ramp to fill that gap.

Every colt mag fed PCC I have used would feed JHP's. In fact I run 125gr Zero JHP bullets in major matches.

    What is your oal?

I had issues with Montana Gold  124g JHP bullets until I installed the Taccom feed ramp. Holy crap, best $29.00 I ever spent.

Feeds anything now, and runs the Taccom 57 round extension with zero issues.

Now if I could just get firing pin tips to stop breaking off when dry firing...

ATI (NFA clone) lower, NGA side charging upper.

I should mention my Colt mag l gun feeds better than the ATI did (before the feed ramp upgrade).

I guess that feed ramp is only for glock mags???

The RMR's are shaped differently than PD's and MG's - I'd try one of them and

see if they feed in your gun.

BTW, why do you want to use JHP's ?

I want a 9mm carbine that will be good for defensive purposes also.

  13. Should I expect my AR9 to be able to reliably run JHPs?

I am using Colt mags and a lower with bottom inserted mag block.

Runs fine with fmjs.  I can't get it to run my RMR JHPs, but I have to load them short(1.08) to fit in the chamber.    Would a new Ar9 dedicated lower for Colt style mags help?

    Suggestions?

Brakes will feel different based on how the gun is held, so feel different to each shooter.  To me the Armalite felt like it was making a figure eight pattern.  Perhaps due to two hp ports.

With the JP I drill a small hole (5/32” I believe) on the right side before the first chamber to counteract the L-R movement for right handed shooter.  This works great for me resulting in minimal movement.

How far behind the 1st port do you drill the hole?  Which one of those comps is available in titanium?

I really like my armalite comp with a hole on the right side and no hole on top or left.
