  3. excuse me if this as already been covered. didnt find it in a search. http://www.oregonshooting.com/cps/default.html MATCH DETAILS 2007 OREGON IDPA CHAMPIONSHIPS Match Schedule The match will take place on October 14, 2007, a Sunday. Start time will be 9:00 am sharp. There will be a staff match the previous day, Saturday starting at the same time. Directions The COSSA Range is located just past Milepost 24 on Highway 20 east of Bend. Go east on Hwy. 20 to Milepost 24. Just past that Milepost you will see a sign, “Shooting Range”, on the right hand side. There will also be an IDPA target placed by the side of the road in a conspicuous fashion. Turn left onto a gravel road at that point. Go up that road about 3/8 mile and turn right into the COSSA Range. You will cross a cattle guard at that point. About 100 yards into the complex is a kiosk for registration. Please register there for all competitors and guests. Go straight on that road past the 1000 yard range, the Black Powder range, and a couple of other rifle ranges. There will be signs pointing toward CPS (COSSA Practical Shooters) on your left. Parking will be behind the fence for competitors. Hwy. 20, while not an interstate, is a good road with a good surface and visibility. It is easy to exceed the speed limit. Watch out for deer and State Troopers on or near the highway. Safety The COSSA Range is a cold range. Please do not have weapons loaded when arriving for the match. Weapons may be “hot” only under the direction of a Safety Officer while at a Course Of Fire. Safety is our first emphasis, as is the case with all of your ranges. Range rules will be prominently displayed at the CPS “Complex”. Please read these and comply. Hotels & Camping Camping is allowed on the COSSA Range in designated areas. There is no charge and reservations are not required but we will need advance notice for campers to ensure access as gates may be locked if you arrive early. Please call Tom Allen at 541-593-7202 to notify. Be advised that due to the remote location of the range, there is no power or water, grey water dump stations, etc. We do have very adequate toilet facilities. Camping can be of either the RV or the tent variety. Dogs are allowed but it is requested that they be under control at all times. During the match, they should be restrained from the area where contestants are shooting unless you have eye and ear protection for your best friend. There are two hotels at the 27th and Hwy. 20 area in Bend. There is a Comfort Inn and a Sleep Inn. The Sleep Inn has agreed to give us a discounted rate for match participants. This rate is $69.00 plus tax for either a one or two bed room. Tell them you are with the COSSA Practical Shooters. These advantageous rates will apply for the first fifteen rooms reserved. To get these rates, the reservations must be made by October 1. The dates for which the special rates will apply are October 12th thru the 14th , or combination thereof. This is a good rate and the Sleep Inn is right on Hwy. 20 which will take you to the COSSA range. There are numerous hotels and motels in the Bend area and a Google search will yield locations with higher or lower prices depending on the thickness of your wallet and the level of luxury to which you may have become accustomed. Weather The elevation of the range is 4200 ft. and is in the high desert. You will be surrounded by sagebrush and Juniper trees. Expect cool to cold mornings with very pleasant mid-day temperatures. For those camping, freezing temperatures are a possibility. October usually has mostly sunny skies and pleasant weather but showers have been known to occur, even in paradise. It is recommended that clothing be layered and that rain gear be handy. It is fully expected that the weather will be very pleasant with daily highs in the 70’s or possibly the low 80’s. While shooting, the sun will be at your back. Miscellaneous Match Information • There will be ten stages. • For those wishing to squad together, that accommodation can be made at site registration the morning of the match. We will have squad sign-up sheets with a maximum number of shooters indicated. • Participation will be limited to the first 80 eligible contestants. Eligibility will be those who have valid IDPA membership and who are classified Marksman or higher. • Those volunteering their services as Safety Officers, and who are accepted for that service, will have a reduced match fee of $25. There will be a separate, random drawing for one gun dedicated to Match Staff. • Each contestant may not enter more than once. • No registrations will be considered later than October 8, 2007. • If you cannot attend for some reason, and for a refund, notify us prior to October 8. There will be no refunds after that …… period. • Any contestants who are minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The match fee for juniors will be $25, half-price. • The match will be run in strict accordance with the most recent IDPA handbook. • The match fee does not include lunch. Contestants will either need to bring a lunch to the match, or avail themselves of the hot dog stand which be run by one of our junior members. Hot Dogs, Chips, Soft Drinks and Candy Bars will be available for a very nominal fee from this fine young entrepreneur. • Each competitor will be provided with a packet at site registration. It will include COF descriptions, a map of the range, a match schedule and information on some of the prizes to be distributed in accordance with IDPA rules. We do intend to give away three guns (two for contestants and one for match staff), some gunsmith services as well as other hardware and software items. All local, state and federal laws will apply. • Of the 9 bays to be used for the ten stages, two have roof structures for cover and four have weather shelters to protect from rain and wind. There will be a large covered area for competitor and guest relaxation. Bring your chairs. • We may chronograph at random. • Safety Officers and Match Staff will shoot either Saturday or Sunday and compete for overall place. • Check this website after October 8 for COF descriptions.
  4. its a great way to practice. everything except lateral movement. on my most recent one i ran a 85 from concealment. and before any one asks i shot it from concealment just because i can.
  5. i ran stage 3 of the classifer in 35 with points down. much faster this way. its easier to get the mag put away with the large pocket
  6. actually it doesnt. ive done it both ways and practiced both to make master in idpa. and its much slower to stick double stack mags in your pants pockets even using the 511 pants. i have found it is much easier to reload into the vest when moving also.
  7. i shoot the classifier for simple reasons. its fun. it has several really good practice techniques. and its easy to set up. i do practice all other things. and i do win matches. and 99% of the time im in the top 3. i should also mention that i dont shoot the classifier over and over again. once every 2-3 weeks if i have time.
  8. What'd you get done to it now Lee? -DNM new finish and new extractor along with match fit barrels in 9mm and 40. its my baby. Me, too. And I did it that way when I did make SSP Master. i figure 5 gun master kelly mears can run the classifier in the sub 70s doing it the way i do i figure i just need to get better.
  9. ive made it in SSP but its easy. my xd comp gun should be back tomrrow. were gonna shoot the classifier this weekend im really hopeing for master in cdp and esp.
  10. Since you asked, just one guy's opinion. None of this is meant to be harsh, but you asked for critique so here it is... Overall, you are obviously a skill and practiced shooter. Of that there's no doubt. By the way, I love the sound track. It looks like you're hitting the holster hard. Come in more from the side and you won't have so much down "umph" to overcome in drawing back up. Also relax your start position. What you're doing they usually blame on IPSC shooters and call it "IPSC Monkey". I find I am actually a LOT faster if I am truly relaxed. I know you are probably trying to key your hands on a certain spot for a consistent draw, but with varied start positions it really won't help you. Guys used to do that crap, grabbing the end of the holster, or a special rivet in their jeans, but you won't see many of the really top flight guys doing that, RO's won't let them, so why practice that way? Learn to just react crisply to the beep and hit the gun from the side, no wasted down force (unless you're using some goofy SSIII rig, which I doubt). On the 2+1 drills (string 1-3) follow through on the head shot more. It's the last of the string, leave the gun there. I know it's "Limited" and you can't make it up, but you'll wiff it less if you're not rushing the gun back to reload. I know because this is one of my main bad habits right now. Your reloads look really solid. Splits look faster than transitions, make sure you're snapping your eyes, and not tracking through the sights. Overall looks really solid. Try that side approach on your draw and I bet you shave .20 off every one. really good advice ill give it a shot Friday. if i can shace .2 off every presentation ill make that master im after.
  11. yeah i noticed that in the video.... its just a bad angle. it was more down range than that. i would have gotten some nasty flash burn tho....yikes ive tried that and i find im less fumble prone if i do it that way every time. its less likely to fumble with the 1911 but when i shoo the glock, xd, or cz i tend to drop the mag more often.
  12. i ran that one in a 99 sec with all my points down. stages one and 2 i rarely go more than 5 points down total. stage 3 i screwed up a little went 15 points down on one target, kept me from making master that day. im new to 1911s. i made master with a glock about 8 months ago. shot the same thing in 92 sec. stage 3 always kills me. its hard to see the targets in that dark range well enough to double taps. i might bring in some flood lights one time.
  13. idpa classifier. another vid i was screwwing around with http://youtube.com/watch?v=yI7qHcmMx2U
  14. is there a good way to practice and improve this.
  15. i air gun my draw and reload in the shower.
