  1. VV N320 @ 3.8g, 200g Bayou Bullets @ 1.187" COAL =166 PF @ 87 Deg. F

ipscjoe, if it's 44 Deg. F you'll need a tenth or two more of powder charge to meet ~165 PF.

I see you started walking the powder charge up to what you need. That is the best way to get what you need. My load book stated this back in 2008 and it was humid that day and also i'm at sea level. All this factors in, therefore your results will differ a little from mine.

    be safe.

I was surprised it made the 144 pf with that little recoil and barely cycled my used 15 pound factory spring. At 165 it must REALLY be light recoil for major with a 200 gr. My only experience with loading major for my edge was with AA5 back in the day and I never changed it. The recoil is TERRIBLE with that powder. Been trying what the consensus is on loads lately here. And found my loads for 45 acp here too. Was so happy with that I figured I'd better ask for my 40 too. Thanks so much. Shooting is fun again.

    Joe.

  2. As already stated my loads were always in the 4.6 to 5.0 grain are. Unless you are trying to make minor your load falls short... Yes my OAL was 1.180. Try starting with 4.6 @ 1.180 or 1.190, work up from there slowly hopefully with a chrono. 4.8 usually got me about a 170 PF. Good luck!!

Using a 200 gr right now thanks.

  3. Tried tonight 3.5 to start at 1.190. Barely cycled the gun. Made a whopping 144 pf.

Came back to the house and loaded 10 more at 3.7 and 1.180 oal. Ran out of light so will try tomorrow.

It's only 44 degrees here in Montana with snow on the ground so if you guys say I'm close I will wait for warmer weather. Thanks.

  4. Yes I've used the search function..........I've been reading over the loads for 40 with VVN320 and it is confusing because people include their loads for short length ammo and also for different guns....

I don't need all that, I need a load for VVn320 Loaded long with either 180 or 200 grain LEAD bullets.....

I must be lucky because I have POUNDS of N320 from SASS Shooting.....

The problem I have also is that when I go to the Lapua site their is only one VVN320 load and it is for a 180 and I believe it's jacketed...

I have a box of 200 gr Lead TC bullets I'd like to try first, but I am open to 180's too...

I see that most people are hovering around the 1.200 range in length

I also would like to keep the power factor close to 165........If I go minor I don't care , not looking to hotrod it..

I know it's been asked before, so I appreciate the help..

    Joe

  5. Recently shot some of the Winchester white box 165's that through a search function search on here are major? Was wondering if anyone has any idea of the powder they use? I know sometimes they have their own "blends". Or anything close ? They are extremely light recoiling in my edge.

  6. Pour it on the dang lawn then. Sheesh. You guys put all kinds of stuff like chemical fertilizer, roundup/ weed killer , change your car's oil on your lawn etc etc etc. why is this one different?

I used to live in California where I was surrounded by fields and orchards that were constantly being defoliated(cotton), sprayed with nasty pesticides etc etc. they were ALL irrigated. Where did that water go? I wouldn't think twice about pitching it.

  7. I have a gold match 2 and couldn't be happier. Its tight and shoots one hole groups. All I did was a trigger job and added a FO sight and magwell.

My question is if the guns are so bad with poor slide to to frame fits and a safety that didnt work why did you buy it in the first place? Did you think it would shoot itself tighter? And you didnt check the safety at the store? thats the kind if thing that I would never have left the store with. I'm calling bs on a lot of what I read on the Internet.

You are always going to hear from the people that have had issues on the Internet , and nothing from the thousands of people that had NO issues. Name a company that doesn't have at least one person that is "un satisfied". Look at all the STI bashing as of late. If every single gun was a lemon would they still be in business ? Come on guys.

As for the custom shop guns, except for the tighter fit barrell (which the gold match has for less money) its ALLLLLLLL cosmetics. I guarantee you will rip the front sight off and put a new one on and put a magwell you like on the gun and change the grips.

Do the serrations make it shoot better than regular serrations ?

She needs a tight accurate reliable gun with good sights (preferably adjustable), and good trigger, that she will have confidence in. Then feed it quality ammo...........And that DOESN'T have to be a kimber. That goes for any gun.
