  1. Once again...tons of great info... I recently shot at an indoor range and the guys who run the range were kind enough to let me snork up all the brass I could in the 15 minutes before closing, and as a result, I ended up with a lot of "trash." Now I know what I'll be doing after dryfire practice tonight!
  2. I'll be sure to do that...as soon as I get back home! Right now I am 250 or so miles from Deming, so I'm stuck practicing on my own for the next 3 weeks and hoping I don't practice "wrong!"
  3. Okay it works now!!! Yeah!!!
  4. Maybe Pickles! Okay...the stupid computer says that it is loaded, so it might work now.
  5. Okay all...stupid link isn't working...I am attempting to correct this. Stupid internet!
  6. 2-1-07 I got a Kydex holster and did some dryfire draw practice. Finally got the video camera set up and taped some of it. Actually sitting down and watching myself draw, I was able to spot inconsistancies. Great tool. I was also able to watch my draws become more and more consistant. If anyone is interested, here's the link:
  7. Jimmy, Welcome! I just ordered a copy of Brian's book and can't wait to get it! Anyway, just wanted to say welcome to the forums and back to the sport!
  8. I'm new to this sport as well, but something that I have found extremely helpful is to set up a tripod and a video camera and record your dryfire practice. It is amazing how much you can correct on your own just by watching yourself from an objective point of view. PS - Video will be posted soon...not sure if I should put it in my Range Diary or in the "Humor forum"
  9. LOL...great pic...serves you right...sleeping on the couch!
  10. You must have gotten one of the last ones!!! Bastard!!! I am waiting for mine...not due in to Dawson until Feb 10th! Who did you order it through? How did it shoot? Did you have any custom work done? Can't wait to get mine!!! Congrats!!!
  11. I know this has been dead for a while, but I just had to get this one back towards the top! I heard somewhere that Wal*mart and Target are merging and that is the reason for dropping the firearms...something about Target supporting gun control All I know is that the commies have finally gotten out here to NM!! I have never bought a firearm from Walmart (although I admit, I have bought ammo) and never would, cheaper or not, but it's a matter of PRINCIPLE!!!
  12. You mean that guy WASN'T with the special forces in "an undisclosed area" that he can't talk about because it's "Classified"?
  13. That is the CA gun-commie's way of telling you that you should move! Lots of guns here in NM! Was clear and 60d today...didn't even need a jacket!
  14. 1-29-07 Did a little dryfire - mostly just screwing off, but I finally "realized" how to focus. I thought I knew how to transition from one target to another (I've had it explained, and explained well), but when I actually did it, I realized that knowing how to do something is much different than being able to do it. Once I quit trying to see my sight picture (i.e. just picked up a gun and aimed it), was when I finally saw it. Lessons Learned: 1. Knowing something is different than understanding it. 2. Listen to the people who know what they are talking about and pay attention. Store their advice and keep it with you - this is good. But until you relax, quit trying so hard and let your body react to the knowledge you have gathered, you'll never really get it.
  15. The S&A fit my Trojan perfectly. I did not try it on my Spartan as I used the SVI magwell on it... Sorry guys...probably should have phrased my question a little better. Does anyone have First Impressions/Range Info on the Trojan? Merlin - Glad to hear it as that is what I am having put on mine!
  16. He's the one that got me addicted to this sport in the first place!!!
  17. Love the topic guys! When I made the decision to stick to shooting L10 (see topic in Range Diary ), I began searching for a "dedicated" gun vs. trying to kill my poor little Colts (don't get me wrong, I love my Colts, as in multiple - just not for racing). I almost ordered a Spartan, but my buddy convinced me to drop the extra $$$ and go with the Trojan. I know this topic is kind of lending towards the Spartan, but does anyone have comparabe info on the Trojan?
  18. That is too cool!!! Love it! Now I have someway of practicing my dry fire until I get my timer!!! +1000
  19. Okay, here goes...warning: I ramble. Read at your own risk! 1-28-07: Second USPSA match - Special Classifier, Alamogordo, NM Weather was good. Planned (important word) on shooting my Open gun on the first round and borrowing my buddy's gun to shoot L10 on the second round (we are playing "I shoot this one first round and you shoot it second round," as I am still waiting for my STI to get here! sniff, sniff). Round 1, Stage 1 - My optics on my Open gun decided that they only wanted to work every 4th shot, so I shot 3/4 of my first stage "blind." This sucks BTW! R1, S2 - Borrowed an L10 gun to shoot with for the rest of R1 and was warned that it "shoots a little low." Apparently his version of "a little low" is different than mine. I killed 5 hostages, shot 2 or 3 mikes and zeroed the stage. R1, S3 - Figured out what "a little low" means, kept a postitive attitude and shot great on S3. Lesson learned: Keep a positive attitude and you WILL shoot better on the next stage - even if "the next stage" ends up being 2 or 3 stages later! R1, S4 - Shot decent - ready for R1 to be over!!! Round 2, Stage 1 - With my 3rd gun for the day I shot okay. Wasn't "driving" the gun and liked to have gotten knocked on my butt by the recoil (.45ACP kicks a bit when you lean back instead of forward!) Lesson Learned: 1. Lean forward and "drive" the gun. R2, S2 - "Fixed" driving problem. Leaned in, felt better. However, I "winged" the heck out of way too many shots, killed hostages, had mikes. Lessons Learned: 1. Don't sqeeze gun so tight. This makes you wing shots (and kill hostages!). 2. Buddy's custom reloaded ammo makes gun run smoother than factory .45ACP. R2, S3 - Saw my sights for the first time!!! Very cool! Shot okay. Was so excited about seeing my sights that I forgot to look at targets! Lesson Learned: Front sight is not rising out of the rear sights. Instead, whole muzzle is making loop-de-loop. Question: What causes this and how do I fix it? R2, S4 - Ready for match to be over, but keeping positive attitude. I WILL finish this match good! Shot better than I did all day. Got points (4 steel, all AA or AC), "drove" well, watched sights and target. Lesson Learned: "Bad" day at range is better than a good day anywhere else. Keeping a positive attitude will make that one great stage stay with you. After match lesson - Learned a new grip technique (shot 4 rounds from 7 yards). Made a huge difference! Winged the first one because it felt wierd, but put the next 3 rounds in the Alpha within 1.5" of each other!!! Very happy with new grip. Must practice it!
  20. Have you looked into an STI Trojan? I am getting one - should be here in about 3 weeks!!! Yippee!!! I am ordering it from Dawson Precision and am having it tuned and tweaked, a mainspring housing/magwell added, optical front sight installed and a trigger assembly installed. It is going to run me $1232 all said and done. My buddy has had them do work on his guns, which I have fired, and I must say, those guys kick @ss!!! Check it out if you are so inclined. Dawson Precision edited here Disclaimer: BTW - I am not at all saying that Springfields aren't great guns. It's just that I have shot a tuned STI race gun and they are beyond awesome!!!
  21. +1 on that! That advise definately came in handy today! There were a lot of "dead hostages" falling left and right because of me and my squad today!!! "A bad day on the range is better than a good day anywhere else!"
  22. True as that may be, I have been shooting firearms my whole life and am LE qualled to carry a firearm!!!
  23. I guess I should have put this one in here rather than the other forum...anyway, it is funny, so worth posting again. Besides, I figured you old-timers could use a laugh remembering "the good old days!" So there I was...my first USPSA match. I was so nervous on the first stage that I was visibly shaking and couldn't even find my sights. All I could think was "Shoot, shoot...I'm supposed to shoot!" Then it gets worse...on the second stage there was a clam shell. All I could think was "Draw, index and shoot, just draw, index and shoot." I drew my gun just fine, got sights on target as it was coming up, and pulled the trigger...once, twice, three times... and after standing there for what seemed like forever, I finally realized that I never disengaged my thumb safety!!! Funny how those things work!!!
  24. Hey boo...I know this post has been dead for a while, but I just had to comment...you sound just like me...hopefully I can heed your advice before I become my own worst enemy!
  25. Wow, once again, you all have made me feel like a true rookie! MJ - Thankyou for the very sound advice. I am probably the world's worst at trying to out-think myself. I printed out your comments and will add them to my hand-book (yes, it's turning into a book) of all the great things I have learned from this forum. Pickles - +1 on a very good point. Thank-you. Ron - I'll have to track that one down. Thanks. Sam - Honor above all else...couldn't have put it better myself! edited here Just a side note after thinking (again - I know, I know!). Winning isn't everything, and please don't think that my sole purpose in shooting is to "chase someone" or "be better than everyone else." What I was trying to convey is that I set goals to give myself something to drive towards. Once I hit that goal, I will set another one. Even after my first match, I was amazed at how much I had calmed down once I had fired my first shot. All I saw was the COF and my sights. So far, winning or beating one person in particular isn't in my head while I am shooting. However, I have realized (thanks to you all) that I will have to work to make sure it stays that way.
