  1. Redding Turret (6 hole) press I've been using for almost 40 years. With an extra turret head and dies for .38 Spl, 9mm, .357 Sig, .40 S&W, .45 ACP and .30-.30 rifle, I've never needed anything else.
  2. Russel: For all around versatility in reloading .40 S&W, try Winchester WSF or Alliant Herco powders. My standard load using 165 gr. plated bullets from Rainier or Montana Gold is 6.0 gr. of WSF 1.135 COL in a Glock 23 or 27. Very accurate, mild recoil and clean burning with low flash.
  3. 6.0 grains of WST behind a 155gr MG plated FN gives me a muzzle velocity of 1,050 fps from of a Glock 23 for a power factor of 162.75.
  4. I reload only jacketed or plated bullets and I have reduced my powder inventory to two -- WST and WSF. My preferred load for .40 caliber is 6.5 grains of WSF under a 155 gr Rainier or MG plated FP. WST is a faster burning powder and 4.5 grains under a 230gr .45ACP plated RN from Rainier, MC or Berrys works just fine. Both loads are extremely accurate with negligible recoil, low flash and clean burning.
  5. I shoot 6.0 grains of WST under a Rainier or Montana Gold 165gr plated FN out of a Glock 23, Glock 27 and S&W 4013TSW. Good accuracy, minimum recoil , low flash and clean burning.
  6. I don't know, but I have reloaded .40 S&W for more than 10 years using first a standard size die, and now a EGW-U size die, and have fired over 25,000 rounds through my Glock 27 and 23, and S&W 4013TSW without any problems. As long as you follow safe reloading practices and SAAMI pressure standards, reloading the .40 S&W is no different than any other caliber.
  7. Thanks for your quick response. I think I'll err on the side of safety and leave the LR primers for their intended purpose. Saving the price of a carton of primers is not worth the risk of damaging my Glock or losing part of my hand,
  8. I have read on other reloading forums that small rifle primers can SAFELY be used in pistol brass, such as .357 Sig. My question concerns the use of large rifle primers (not magnum rifle) to reload .45 ACP. The primers are the same size but I'm sure are more powerful than large pistol primers.
