Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. How? I looked for a button, or option but dont' see a thing about adding an avatar to one's profile. Thanks.
  2. Worth the price? For the first time....ever!...I had a "dud" Win s.p.p. Not a warm and fuzzy feeling. But a bit of research has suggested poor quality control. Which explains some issues I've had off and on the last 5+ years or so: big variances in my fav "old standard" loads, occassional primer hang-up in the Dillon primer tube, etc. So I'm thinking about using their "match" small pistol primers instead. The price increase is no big deal IF I do indeed get a far better quality primer. Anybody using these? If so, better? Way back when (the "big primer shortage" days!) I tried several different s.p.p. like CCI, Federal, etc. Some were a real drag as my 550B would not punch them all the way out at the re-size/de-cap/re-primer stage. Bummer. So I kept with Win...until now.
  3. Maybe, maybe not. Depends on the individual. There's a lot more distractions and physical demands on a SO than just being a shooter. Sure, you might get a little "inside peak" for the COF, but by the time you get there, you're usually wrapped up in everything else. For me it's a wash as far as "competitive performance". Not that I'm much of a "competitor" by any means...But it's really great being able to help out with the IDPA game so I try to SO as much as possible. Wyley
  4. I bought a Pact Club Timer III last Oct. I sent it back to them in December. It came back fairly quickly. Nice, except that it still has the same problem. Sometimes when I turn it on, the displays seems normal. Fire 4 or 5 rounds and everything looks ok. Then I hit the "RVW" (review) button and things gets weird. The display shows the first shot as something like 474.59, with a split of 474.59. Yo, I'm slow, but not that slow. The next couple of shots add to the time normally, splits ok, but then shot four or five shows a time of 3.25 with a split of 0.00. Even better is that it doesn't do this consistently. Sometimes the very first reading shows 278.54 or whatever. How's that for utterly strange. Like what, gemlins? I tried new batts. Nope. I tried warming it up. Nope...plus a futile effort when it's 29F with a nice stiff breeze. Yeah, I called them. Yeah I sent it back. Yeah, I'm somewhat (!) less than stoked. Anybody else have anything like this with their Club III? I searched the forum but it looked like everyone else is all warm and fuzzy with theirs. So, how is the Pocket Pro 2 by Competition Electronics? Wyley in Oly
  5. I thinking about trying out these two powders for 45acp jhp loads. The data shows very good velocities at a moderate pressure levels. Has anybody out there assemled a fmj or jhp load with either of these powders? If so, how was the muzzle flash? I avoid powders like PowerPistol due to the insane muzzle flash. Thanks. Wyley in Oly
  6. Thanks for all the replies. I've got a new .45acp re-sizer die on the way from Dillon. I tumbled a couple of hundred new Starline cases and will have (hopefully!) resolved the issue. I'll keep the re-sizer clean from now on and tumble all new brass before loading it. I'm really hoping that this will do the trick as I don't much like the idea of having to "de-burr" the case mouth for all the new brass I'll eventually use. When I ordered from Dillon today I asked about "de-greasing" the new carbide die. The Dillon customer service guy said no. But I'm thinking....maybe yes? Wyley in Oly
  7. Once again I've run into something weird when loading brand new brass. I got a new batch of Starline (this time .45acp) and when I started loading a batch the cases began to "stick" in the (Dillon) re-sizer and had scratches lengthwise from the case mouth about 1/2 down the case. They'd go in ok, but on the down stroke get increasingly hard to get back out of the re-sizer. I stopped, pulled the die, cleaned it out with Hoppes and a brush, dried and re-installed and it was the same after a couple more cases. I've run into this before (in 40S&W) with new brass. What gives? Is it residue on the carbide encountering new, never sized brass and grinding small particles into the carbide? It looks now like the carbide is scratched for good. Any insight would be appreciated. Wyley in Oly
  8. Ok, so what do you do when it's 90+F? Leave your gun at home? One of the things that I liked about IDPA when I first joined was that I could use my everyday stuff. No big deal.
  9. This is why I really like two SOs working the COF. One can watch the muzzle, finger, etc and the other (scorekeeper) and be looking for things like cover. But yeah, maybe drawing a line might be a good idea.
  10. Ooops, went back and edited my reply. Misread the OALs used by UW Mitch. Yup, too long for the Glock chamber. I think the max is 1.135. Anyway, thanks for all the replies.
  11. Oh yeah, the search thing...thanks for the reminder. Looks like Jeff will need more mags at a minimum.
  12. UW Mitch: Another Brother from Fungus Corners and the NWPPA! I'm putting my loads together with recycled (!) brass and even though it's going thru a KKM tube, I still don't like it THAT hot. 975fps is plenty from the little g23 for the IDPA game and my training/practice rounds in general. My main puzzle now is why a 40S&W load with a 165jhp going 980 doesn't cycle. Friggin' weird. Tomorrow I'm trying out a N340 load, but, well, there I am, once again back to a "slow" powder.
  13. Too soon for any input on the latest XD? Hopefully nobody's got any NEGATIVE things to say already!
  14. Well, we had several jams with the first run of N320. Failures to feed (bullet nose into top of barrel hood-looks like short stroke) in both the XD40 and the G23. Load was 5.3gr with a MBG 165 jhp @ 1.125" OAL in once fired Rem cases. Just to confirm I tried a batch with mix headstamp stamp a couple of days later. Same malf. We were getting about 980fps so it seems odd that the load wasn't cycling reliably. Maybe N320 needs higher charges to keep the pressure up long enough to cycle our "duty style" guns? It did seem to be a cleaner burning load, but that's not important enough if it's not going to run the gun! Note: the MGB 165 @ 1.125" has run perfectly for me for years using Silhouette, new brass or old. The ONLY change was using N320.
  15. That's a real big NEGATIVE on using PowerPistol! I tired it when it first came out...until I used the load during a low light exercise. They didn't throw me out of the class, but it was close. Fuggitaboutit! Anyway, after doing a search here, I'm leaning towards N320. It's sounding like Titegroup is a little too hinky concerning pressure spikes into the k-b zone. Before Silhouette I was running N340 which was working just fine, at least in comparison to Silhouette. Thanks again for the the input! Wyley
