ozzyj
I'm curious as to where/what these shavings are from on my 650 shell plate. To me they look like brass shavings https://photos.app.goo.gl/GxYcuAV8h6n8Hr3N2 The only thing I've changed recently is to have my powder measure expand my 9mm cases a bit more so I didn't have to hold each bullet as I raised the ram. Sarge
Well, you increased bell and this started happening? My guess is the crimp die has a wider mouth to deal with so it’s shaving a little off the edge of case mouth. Should be easy to isolate by cleaning it all up and the watching for fresh flakes at crimp station. That’s a lot of flakes! How long to accumulate that much? I would reduce the amount of bell you thought you needed.
noylj
Flakes come from two sources: the expander scrapping the case ID at the mouth and the crimp die scrapping the case OD at the mouth when crimping. In all cases, a light chamfer, inside and out solves the problem or you can just keep going and collect the shavings from cases your expander and crimp die haven't cleaned up for you. For my S&W M52 .38 wadcutter loads, I need to use so much bell that the case mouth does contact the crimp die body, but I don't get ANY shavings from that, as my cases were all once chamfered.
