texasdawg
What steel would be good to make a firing pin from? Would a oil hardening steel be good or could one be made without hardening it at all leaving it ductal to resist the shocks involved in use? It would seem at least the end the hammer strikes should be hardened. What hardness is a Tanfo hammer???
broadus123
I would say it needs to be hardened. I had a colt firing pin peen where the hammer contacts it. Must not have been hardened.

Toolguy
I would use S7 drill rod and harden and temper to 38-40 Rc.
