Butterpuc
I finally picked up a 2.0 the other day, I was really impressed with the grip. If it were me I would start with that one as the base. The only other consideration is if you ever plan to shoot CO... but even with that consideration... you probably would not want to shoot CO in 40. Cordell
I was on the S&W website and noticed they don't make a 5 inch black .40 without a safety? Seems they have every other combination but that. Edited May 5, 2017 by Cordell
Vizorn
You can run this one out of the box: https://www.smith-wesson.com/firearms/performance-center-mp-40-pro-series Aftermarket improvements can be made with Apex parts, Speed Shooter Specialties magwell, Taylor Freelance or Taran Tactical mag base pad extensions, and Dawson sights. This one will also work, but you'll need to replace the barrel to a non-ported version (recommend Apex): https://www.smith-wesson.com/firearms/performance-center-ported-mp-40l-hi-viz-fiber-optic-sights The same aftermarket improvements can be made to this gun as well. The CORE models will also work, but you'll be limited in aftermarket sight option.

I haven't put any rounds through the 2.0, so I have no basis for comparison. However, I did handle them at the NRA show last weekend, and while the trigger is a bit more crisp than stock 1.0, it's not even close to the Apex FSS kits. I don't know how the Apex kits will be in the 2.0. All of the other external upgrades would be similar across both the 1.0 and 2.0.
Cordell
I did notice the rails on the 2.0 are bigger more robust looking.
Mully383
Overall the 2.0 might be better out of the box but I wouldn't say it's by much. I can't get over the 2.0 doesn't auto forward. But after you add on all the aftermarket jazz your not going to see much of a difference.
