Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I do not have a crono and I am wondering what fps others are getting from their commander length barrels with WST and a 200 gr lswc. My current load: Oregon Trail 200 gr lswc 4.8 gr WST WLP primer assorted cases What can I expect with a 200 gr lswc and 4.9, 5.0, 5.1 grains of WST? I am looking to make the 165 Power Factor for IDPA. I am aware that there are differences in barrels and that WST can be temperature sensitive, so I am looking for a little buffer greater than 825 fps.
  2. I have an Ernie Hill holster that I used for my 5" Colt Govt with a compensator, so 6" total length plus a twin mag pouch.. Don't have the gun any longer. Interested?
  3. I am replacing my original recoil spring in my 9mm and would like to know if others are using a conventional or variable spring in their 9mm's?
  4. Has anyone accidently loaded a .380 case while loading for 9mm and shot it in your 9MM? The reason I ask is that I was picking through cleaned assorted brass separating 9mm, .40. and .45 and I believe I accidently dropped a .380 case into my bin of 9mm cases. This bin holds several hundred cases and I could not locate the .380. No I'm worried that when I grab some 9mm cases to load and if I don't notice the .380 I may go over pressure if I fire it in my gun. I am loading 4.0 grs of Titegroup with a 124 gr Berrys.
  5. Tripp Cobra 10 round. I never had a problem with these in either my 9mm or my .45
  6. I have a 550 powder assembly that has a large powder bar for rifle loads. What powder bar do I order for a 9mm? Do I order a small or extra small? I see that I will also need to order a spacer bar and the white plug? Is there anything else I would need to consider?
  7. Has anyone gotten a chance to use this powder in 9mm? If so, how did you like it?
  8. I am running a 16# Wolf Variable rate recoil spring, 23# main and a square firing pin stop. I am shooting a 200 gr SWC over 4.9 grains of WST. I have read numerous threads here about going to a lighter recoil spring to reduce muzzle bounce when the slide slams forward. I am also using a Wilson Shock Buff and have noticed that there is a definite indentation left on the Shock Buff after a couple hundred rounds. I was going to remove the Shock Buff but after seeing the indentation I decided to switch back to a 18# recoil spring. What do you other Commander shooters use when shooting IDPA? I'm afraid if I go lighter than 18# without the s hock buff I will start to batter the dust cover. Ideas for a smooth shooting Commander?
  9. I am currently shooting a 200 gr swc with 4.8 grs of WST. I would like to get less felt recoil. Could I go down to a 16# mainspring without frame battering? What about reducing the mainspring weight?
  10. I have a Colt Commander I use for IDPA and would like to get it shooting as smoothly as I can. I load 4.9 grs of WST over a 200 gr SWC. I have purchased an EGW square firing pin stop and I would like to hear recommendations on what size recoil spring I should use? Do you favor variable or conventional? Wolff or ISMI? What size mainspring should I use?
  11. O.K., I'm looking to get some new sights for my Colt Commander. A Dawson FO front with a Heine Slant Pro rear. I have called both Dawson and Heine and get a different answer from each. Dawson says I would need a .160 front. Heine says that I would need a .180 front. Is there anyone who has this sight combination on a Commander? What height front did you go with?
  12. I plan on replacing the original sights on my Commander to a Dawson FO front and a Heinie Slant Pro rear. Is there a recommended sight in distance for IDPA? If so that may determine the height of my front sight which was suggested as .160 by Dawson.
  13. Can you tell me what is the proper adjustment for the seating die and crimping die? Is the seating die supposed to touch the shellplate? How much of the casing should be inside the seating die with the ram in up position? What is the proper method to set the crimping die? I am loading 45 acp.
