ErikW
Even though I've been reloading for ten years or so, I've got a beginner's reloading question. If you read the instructions for a sizing die, they generally say something like: raise the shellplate all the way, screw the die in until it touches then another 1/4 turn more, do not allow the press to cam over. What do they mean by camming over? Is it specific to single stage presses? Does it apply to any Dillon presses?
Ross Carter
On some presses because of the way the linkage is set up the handle can go past the point that the ram is fully lifted. When that happens the ram will start retracting. I suppose this could be some extra stress or wear on the ram.
Guest Larry Cazes
I don't believe any of the Dillons are setup to do this. My RCBS rockchucker is, though and It is perfectly acceptable to use the extra travel and it won't harm the press a bit.
