I did a couple of service calls for some friends of the wife. These are my friends too, and so I did it gratis. They are good people and offered to watch the girls for a night while the wife and I went out. I think cool, date night.

Soooo......

...the wife and I are supposed to see someone sing at the casino here as I am lucky to have won tickets. The singer cancells and we end up going to see Brothers with Toby Maguire, Jake Gyllenhall, and Natalie Portman.

Whoa!! :surprise:

First of all I must say that if you are looking for a feel good, fun movie to take a date to, this is not it. While this movie is very well directed, has superb acting, and is just very well done, the subject matter is so heavy and intense, you will be affected.

I liked the performances of the actors, but this was an uncomfortable movie to watch. Even a group of 20something guys sitting in front of us were crying and gasping throughout this movie.

This will be this generations Coming Home, without being anti-war or preachy. This movie really covers alot of ground when dealing with the subject matter of the war, ( both current conflicts) and its' effect on family and friends.

I think though that in hindsight if I had known the subject matter, I would have chosen something lighter for a date movie. (Anything would have been lighter!) The acting and direction in this movie is just top notch. You beleive it possible because it is not over-acted Hollywood, but understated letting the script and subject speak for itself.

I think you will like the craft. It is well done and just beautiful in its' execution. But, it will be hard to "like" this movie and once seen I doubt you will ever want to see it again.

Wow...

Interesting take. Can't imagine paying the bucks to see it at the theatre, but will be looking for it on DVD release...

The trailer doesn't even BEGIN to cover how intense it is. I came home from a semester at school, and went out with some old friends and saw this movie.

Killed the mood the rest of the night cause we've got a couple friends getting ready to go to the sandbox.

God bless our troops.
