Safariland inner belt modification

I have a Safariland inner belt that is too big for me. I was going to cut it down and then have a shoe repairman put a line of stitch across the cut part to keep the belt from fraying and slowly disintegrating, however I cannot find any shoe repair places locally. So I thought maybe I could cut it, then burn it to melt the end. Anyone done this before?

I cut it with a size huge scissors then I melted the end with a soldering iron. If you burn it I suggest a butane BBQ lighter and a wet rag to squeeze the plastic to a point instead of leaving a blob which is hard to get through belt loops. Ask me how I found out. :D

I thought about suggesting a sewing awl, but I have never used one. Do they work well in your experience?

(I do have a rivet in one of my range belts. It is working...where my hot glue gun had failed.)

Truth is I have not used such a tool. I do get good service out of needle and thread.

Pop rivets are not going to lay flat on that underbelt, nor will they prevent unraveling.
