50 cal ring height recommendations.

Just in the final steps of finalizing my 50 setup have rifle, scope & case all sorted out.

The last piece of the puzzle is rings...so a question to all you 50 cal shooters out there:

What height rings are you using and would you change it?

SCOPE => 56mm objective.

1.20 seems standard.

1.30 ?

1.40 ?

Also, need to consider the possible install of a long rail for any NV needs down the road.

It's a TAC-50...i know Mcmillan use a 1.20 ring as standard.

The trouble is i would like to try BORS down the road and maybe NV...this could lead me to be buying 3 sets of rings $$$.

What i understand is that height has two main effects...cheekweld and loss of MOA.

Cheekweld shouldn't be an issue as i have 1.5" of stock travel.

MOA loss becomes an issue out past 1,500 yds but as i'm using a NF 22 i do have 100 MOA to play with.

This is my Bushmaster BA-50 set up. I went with Smith Enterprises .50 BMG Rings and a AR-15 steel riser also from Smith Enterprises. My reason was this set up will allow me to go to most any scope on the market without having to purchase additional equipment. My current scope is a Bushnell 3200 Elite Tactical. But as you can see I have plenty of room for a much larger objective if I choose to go that route. I can't say enough good about the Smith Enterprises rings. They come with beautifully matched steel, double flanged, 1" bushings that fit so well, they just "snap" into place. Again, if I want to go to a 30 MM scope, all I have to do is lose the bushings, and I'm all set. None of this stuff was cheap, but I like the versatility it gives me. Bill T.

I understand the worry about ring height with NV and maybe I'm asking a stupid question but how would ring height be a factor with BORS?

No height issue with BORS itself but you need to use BARRETT rings.

OOOHHH, I see, I was just curious. I went and looked a Barrett's website at that too. In the world of gunporn their website is like the hardcore stuff.
