Slide Racker

Recommended Posts

If you put it on your 'thumb side' make sure it will clear your thumb(s). That's the problem with the factory racker. I almost tore off a fingernail one day by catching my weak hand index finger on my strong hand thumb while racking the slide.

Plus, if you shoot 'thumbs up', you might catch your thumb on it.

I read here on the forum somewhere that there is a model that can be taken off without tools in a second. Sounds good. Anyone knows what I am talking about?

.....what about putting the racker on the right side. No thumbs there!

I had Jim Anglin install a Sidewinder racker in a "ball-detent" type of installation. He installs a spring-loaded small ball-bearing in the dovetail of the slide. Then a small hole/indentation on the bottom of the racker. Slides in and out of the dovetail with ease but never comes out while shooting. Dan Bedell does the same thing as well, I've only seen his done on S_I's though, don't know if it makes a difference.

Oh, mines on the left side as well, where my thumbs are, they haven't been whacked yet......
