Brian Enos's Forums... Maku mozo!

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at getting a PDA and had some questions. Basically I went to 3rd shift at work and needed internet access because I'm bored. I was looking at the AT&T data plan for $35 a month. I think this is a 3g network.

How is the internet speed with the pda's??

Whats the pro's and con's of a pda??

Any other options out there??

Recommended brands??

Thanks

Look at the AT&T Apple IPHONE (It's 3g). It's awesome for surfing and generally a great phone. There are free applications being developed everyday for it. The IPHONE can do just about anything a PDA can. Doubles as a IPOD also.

The Itouch IPOD now has FREE wireless access anywhere there is a hotspot in the building. Yes you have to buy the IPOD for somewhere around $250 but after that ...............................

There is no wireless connection so thats out. If they had wireless I would be set, I would just buy the new archos PMP.. The I phone is out, I use a tracfone and can get 240 mins for $30. I don't even use half of the mins in 3months so it would be a waste of money to have a cell phone plan. Thats why I'm looking at a PDA. It really doesn't have to be great, just get me on the internet but if its super slow I probably wouldn't get it.

Just thought about it alittle. Wonder if I could get an Iphone with only Data only, it would only be $35 a month.

Thanks for the ideas

I have to be real here so here goes... The IPhone is great for everything, but the phone. I get dropped calls and no service in many areas around here. The speaker-phone is so low as to be useless. I wish the directory was easier to look up names.... it's a bitch the way it is. I haven't looked for another app yet, but it sucks in that it has no voice dialing or the ability to just type in a few letters and get to a name. The scrolling of the phone list is a pain as well. I have a couple hundred names in ind for business shit and retrieval downright sucks.

All the rest is good though... it's an amazing piece. I hope they fix the volume issues... it's strange bcause the music sounds in fine on speaker, if voice was that loud it would be great.

I was using a Razor with AT&T and a simple internet plan ( I believe $15 a month ) And a Palm Tungsten T. by using your Bluetooth connection you can use the internet on your palm or PDA.

Warning: it is a little slow and not all pages are visible ( at least on my palm ) but I used to be able to check and read The Brian Enos forums and other forums that I subscribe to. get my E Mail on an scheduled download and a lot of other kool things.

BTW: I now use a Smartphone and Life is Good

<br />Just checked, can't get the Iphone with Data only <img src="style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" /> <br /><br /><br /><br />Flyin<br />

I can get data only from US Cellular to my Blackberry at about $25-$40 per month.

I live in Fly Over Country, so we take what we can get, but I am very satisfied with US Cellular & BB.

No 3G around here.

Talked again with AT&T, I can go with a smartphone/pda with a 3g network data plan with unlimited data for $35 a month. This give me more options now.

I use a Motorola QH smartphone with AT&T and I am VERY happy with it. The only draw back with the Q is some videos can not play because a flash is needed and the Q does not have one.

Borrowed a Blackjack with the 3g network from AT&T the last couple of days and used it at work. Does pretty well, just have to get used to the not all of the page displaying. Also I tried posting several time here on the forums and it wouldn't allow me. Not sure why?? I was able to do everything and when I was finished and went to post it took me back to the main page and no post was submitted?? No clue.
