Txshooter524
Want to know if this is a good idea. Thinking of using it to shoot SS...considering either a 200 or 230 swc. Bhn is around 15 if that matters. Thanks
JakeMartens
I use Bulletworks hardcast 200gr lswc with 4.3 grs of Clays to make major. It smokes, but works
HSMITH
Clays works great with relatively soft bullets and soft lubes. Commercial hard lube sucks no matter what powder you use but Clays is a little on the hot side and has a very fast pressure rise, both of those can contribute to barrel leading. The bullets at 15 BHN are harder than needed by a bit but should work fine if the lube is up to the job. I have shot hundreds and hundreds of pounds of lead bullets with Clays, and the lube is the key.
steel1212
Yup, my bullet of choice is a LSWC at I think 16 BH, over 4.3 clays in .45.
Txshooter524
Considering using LLA w/ tl bullets. Good combo w/ clays?
HSMITH
It works OK. The LLA is not optimum, but it works. Cast the bullets down at 9 to 11 bhn and save some money with a side benefit of having bullets that shoot better and lead less given the same powder and lube. The only problem with LLA is volume, if you put enough on the bullets to keep from getting muzzle end leading it will choke your dies to death in a couple hundred rounds. Thin it out with mineral spirits so that it just puts a hint of a gold tint on the bullets and that is all you can really use. A Chore Boy pad unfolded and wrapped in a bore brush will take the leading out without any of the work, a couple swipes with it every couple hundred rounds should keep you in good shape. Casting with range scrap...done several hundred lbs that's been the consistent reading throughout. Maybe I could soften it up with some stick on weights? Thx for the cleaning tips
