FinnishVisitor
Hi Everybody As I was not able to find a topic for introduction I'll do it here. I am the grown up fella from Finland. Highly interested about ballistics. I am planning to build a special set-up to measure bullet velocity retardation. A set of skyscreens connected to laptop with necessary interface circuitry. I am planning to have more than two skyscreens in my set-up in order to measure velocity retardation with higher accuracy. I have CED M2 in use and CED's skyscreen would be a good choise for my set-up. The CED skyscreens are also available as spare part as I need the skyscreens only not chrono itself. Before making an order for the sensors or skyscreens I would like to have a better understanding of the PACT skyscreens and/or the PACT/IR skyscreens. I am quite confident that here is some electronics professionals (as I am) who have PACT chrony and who have made an "autopsy" to his chrono. CED sensor/skyscreen is connected to the chrono unit by a connector with 3 wires. Obviously two power leads and one signal lead. CED sensor has a signal amplifier inside. It would be nice if somebody would answer to this question: How PACT (or PACT/IR) sensor is connected to chrono unit (how many contact in the connector).? Is there some circuitry inside of the sensor that looks like an amplifier? Or do I have to assume that PACT sensor doesn't have amplifier inside but it is in the chrono unit? thanks in advance -FinnishVisitor-
wide45
Two contacts on each skyscreen connector for the Pact. Edited January 11, 2009 by wide45
FinnishVisitor
Two contacts on each skyscreen connector for the Pact. Thanks. It is still possible that there is an amplifier or some other trigger circuitry inside of the sensors. Let's wait for more info. -FinnishVisitor-
wide45
Pretty sure there is no circuitry in the skyscreen housing. I've had them apart, and the cable is connected directly to some kind of small optical sensor.

In that case it is easier to stick to CED sensors. -FinnishVisitor-

wide45
I have the older style housing. Does not have that board.
RePete
I have the older style housing. Does not have that board. They would be the Mk5 skyscreens. The IR came with the Mk6 screens.
