TRG65
I was wondering if anyone else has seen increased velocity by using a heavier spring. This makes some sense because it would mean the gun stays locked up longer. By the same token, I thought that the bullet should be long gone before the gun unlocks. I was shooting my 147 9mm load in my Springfield 1911, by changing from a 9lb spring to an 11lb spring I saw a 10fps increase with the same batch of ammo. This is a very consistent load the SD is only 5 fps.
Detlef
IMHO, no way. Post the actual measured velocities (all readings, with both springs), and we can do a bit of statistics to see whether your conclusion (higher velocities with heavier spring) is even supported by the numbers. I would think that 10 shots each should be enough. If it's a 1911, you can even clamp the slide to the frame (do this only if you know what I'm talking about) and simulate an infinite weight spring. You should see no velocity change. --Detlef
Loves2Shoot
Agreed with detlef, I experemented a bunch with different springs (11-16, RecoilMaster, Sprinco) I never noticed any measurable difference.
benos
Try this: Shoot five, fifteen shot strings with each spring, switching springs between each fifteen shot string (to eliminate lighting variables) and see what you come up with. be
