EEH
I have a colt 70 series in 38 super, the problem is the firing pin hits at the 6 oclock position --and I get some mis fires even with factory ammo,, lock up is tight ,,would new barrel fit lower firing point,,,
wide45
It might. Most likely someone raised the barrel with a long link, to tighten the lockup. If so, fitting a new barrel might be the best way to make things right. On the other hand, the link, and lugs may be properly fit. You used to be able to get an offset bushing, to raise the firing pin. Still a job for a good gunsmith, but way less than a new barrel.
HSMITH
How much upper lug engagement does it have? When you know that you will know what needs to be done to fix it.
EEH
How much upper lug engagement does it have? When you know that you will know what needs to be done to fix it. Do you mean the link could be holding the barrel up.
HSMITH
Could be, could also be that the upper lug engagement is correct and the firing pin hole in the slide is low. If the barrel fit is wrong you would fix it by fitting the barrel correctly, if the slide is wrong you would address that. Knowing where the problem actually lies will tell you which direction to go. Firing pin hit location on the primer is only a WAG (wild ___ guess) at how the barrel is actually fit, some people think the gospel truth is that the firing pin hit must be on center or the barrel wasn't fit right and they are flat wrong.
