gingerbreadman
Hey guys, I have been looking through all my loading books and i only found a couple loadings for the 220 grain in 30.06.......the powders i have on hand and would prefer to use are h1000, h335, imr 7828, varget ,imr 4064, h4831 I realize some of these powders are not ideal for this bullet weight but im sure i can work with a couple of them...... -gbm-
gm iprod
H335 is way too fast. You will damage something. Varget and 4064 are also a little to quick. H1000 way to slow. You will get unburned powder and poor velocity and or accuracy. Even with a magnum primer. The 4831 should work the best out of the powders that you have, use Magnum Primers, although I have had excellent results with H4350, V V n160, H414 or W760.. Good Luck

gm iprod
Use the following. I have checked four different reloading manuals and all of them come up with H4831 as the best. This is the long cut version, not the new short cut. Hodgdon #27 H4831- Start at 54grains (2342fps) max 57.5gr (2458) IMR4831- Start 53gr Max 56gr (2490) Win 760 - Start 45gr Max 49gr (2370) H1000 - Start 58gr Max 61gr (2400) Sierra 50th H4831 - Start 49gr Max 55.7gr (2500) Reloader 19 - Start 43.6gr Max 51.6gr (2500) Speer. Older book C1980. IMR 4831 - Start 51gr MAx 57.5gr (2600) IMR 4350 - Start 46.5gr Max 54.5gr (2600) As you can see there is quite a difference. Always start low and work up. All 4831, RE19 and H1000 data used a Magnum Primer. Nothing specific mentioned for the others, always assume Std primer and be careful if you go Magnum. L9X25
GBM, My book pretty much agrees with GM but I will post what it lists: H4831 51.5gr(start)=2200fps H4831 58.6gr (max load)=2500fps both of these use a Federal 210 primer and 3.665 OAL This is Hornady 4th edition. Good luck, Leo
gingerbreadman
Is there a difference between short cut and regular h4831?? all i have is the short cut...... -gbm-
gm iprod
I think the short cut is 2% faster. It's made in Australia buy a company called ADI. They list two types of powder. One is AR2213 and AR2213SCH. The SCH stands for Short Cut Hodgdon and is faster than the long cut. Reduce loads by 2% extra and away you go. Just work up to any pressure signs as normal. H4831 both types is real forgiving.
