Dave Gundry
Sorry for another 1911 grip thread, but my searching was fruitless... Looking for a set of 1911 grips, smooth, NOT thin, flat bottom, and cheap (if possible). Going to coat them in skate tape. A friend gave me a set of grips free, I think they are Houge's, but they come up a bit short on the magwell, and are MUCH smaller fore and aft than either my Ergo XT's or my Burner grips. Any idea's? Did I just get a crappy set of Houge's (or are they something else)?
warpspeed
I think most people go with the Alumagrips.
Dave Gundry
Hmm, those are a bit spendy for my budget. Any other ideas? Or anybody know if the Houge's generally fit like crap or if I got an oddball set?
trevoro
Check out VZ Grips. He supports USPSA and has his products on our prize tables from time to time. I have a set on my 1911 and am really happy with them. They are reasonably priced, but you might call him and see if he has any cosmetic seconds laying around that he could sell you for less. http://www.vzgrips.com/
HoMiE
Have you considered buying plain wood or plastic and sanding them down smooth. Get the cheapest ones you can find if your going to cover them up with grip tape anyways.
Dave Gundry
That thought has crossed my mind, but being 6'4", I have huge hands - any decrease in thickness is a bad thing. I may have to play with some resin systems to build a set up and smooth out...
