old john
Need some advise! I loaded a couple hundred 40 cal 165 g fp rounds (very light pf) but 5 thousandths too long. Could there be a problem running them through the seating and crimping die again set for the proper OAL. I know it doesn't sound like a lot but the mags are not in favor of the extra length. Thanks for your advise.
Duane Thomas
Are you using a different brand of brass? If the type brass you're using has case thicker walls there will be more resistence as the bullet is seating, thus it won't seat as deep, thus slightly longer rounds. old john
Actually Duane I re set the seating die and ran off the loads without double checking thus found them too long for the mags! Shame on me. Mistakes can make for a bad day! Must be the old age factor again. Thanks ,old john
EricW
If you reseat the bullets and re-crimp them, everything will turn out dandy. Most everyone's been there and done that on this issue. FWIW - Just because of the variations in bullet tips, I would try to keep your average OAL at least .010" under your max OAL for your gun/mags. Total variation in OAL of .005" is normal in a batch of ammo and this will keep you from getting into too much trouble.
