MATCH DETAILS

2007 OREGON IDPA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Match Schedule

The match will take place on October 14, 2007, a Sunday. Start time will be 9:00 am sharp. There will be a staff match the previous day, Saturday starting at the same time.

Directions

The COSSA Range is located just past Milepost 24 on Highway 20 east of Bend. Go east on Hwy. 20 to Milepost 24. Just past that Milepost you will see a sign, “Shooting Range”, on the right hand side. There will also be an IDPA target placed by the side of the road in a conspicuous fashion. Turn left onto a gravel road at that point. Go up that road about 3/8 mile and turn right into the COSSA Range. You will cross a cattle guard at that point. About 100 yards into the complex is a kiosk for registration. Please register there for all competitors and guests. Go straight on that road past the 1000 yard range, the Black Powder range, and a couple of other rifle ranges. There will be signs pointing toward CPS (COSSA Practical Shooters) on your left. Parking will be behind the fence for competitors. Hwy. 20, while not an interstate, is a good road with a good surface and visibility. It is easy to exceed the speed limit. Watch out for deer and State Troopers on or near the highway.

Safety

The COSSA Range is a cold range. Please do not have weapons loaded when arriving for the match. Weapons may be “hot” only under the direction of a Safety Officer while at a Course Of Fire. Safety is our first emphasis, as is the case with all of your ranges. Range rules will be prominently displayed at the CPS “Complex”. Please read these and comply.

Hotels & Camping

Camping is allowed on the COSSA Range in designated areas. There is no charge and reservations are not required but we will need advance notice for campers to ensure access as gates may be locked if you arrive early. Please call Tom Allen at 541-593-7202 to notify. Be advised that due to the remote location of the range, there is no power or water, grey water dump stations, etc. We do have very adequate toilet facilities. Camping can be of either the RV or the tent variety. Dogs are allowed but it is requested that they be under control at all times. During the match, they should be restrained from the area where contestants are shooting unless you have eye and ear protection for your best friend.

There are two hotels at the 27th and Hwy. 20 area in Bend. There is a Comfort Inn and a Sleep Inn. The Sleep Inn has agreed to give us a discounted rate for match participants. This rate is $69.00 plus tax for either a one or two bed room. Tell them you are with the COSSA Practical Shooters. These advantageous rates will apply for the first fifteen rooms reserved. To get these rates, the reservations must be made by October 1. The dates for which the special rates will apply are October 12th thru the 14th , or combination thereof. This is a good rate and the Sleep Inn is right on Hwy. 20 which will take you to the COSSA range. There are numerous hotels and motels in the Bend area and a Google search will yield locations with higher or lower prices depending on the thickness of your wallet and the level of luxury to which you may have become accustomed.

Weather

The elevation of the range is 4200 ft. and is in the high desert. You will be surrounded by sagebrush and Juniper trees. Expect cool to cold mornings with very pleasant mid-day temperatures. For those camping, freezing temperatures are a possibility. October usually has mostly sunny skies and pleasant weather but showers have been known to occur, even in paradise. It is recommended that clothing be layered and that rain gear be handy. It is fully expected that the weather will be very pleasant with daily highs in the 70’s or possibly the low 80’s. While shooting, the sun will be at your back.

Miscellaneous Match Information

• There will be ten stages.

• For those wishing to squad together, that accommodation can be made at site registration the morning of the match. We will have squad sign-up sheets with a maximum number of shooters indicated.

• Participation will be limited to the first 80 eligible contestants. Eligibility will be those who have valid IDPA membership and who are classified Marksman or higher.

• Those volunteering their services as Safety Officers, and who are accepted for that service, will have a reduced match fee of $25. There will be a separate, random drawing for one gun dedicated to Match Staff.

• Each contestant may not enter more than once.

• No registrations will be considered later than October 8, 2007.

• If you cannot attend for some reason, and for a refund, notify us prior to October 8. There will be no refunds after that …… period.

• Any contestants who are minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The match fee for juniors will be $25, half-price.

• The match will be run in strict accordance with the most recent IDPA handbook.

• The match fee does not include lunch. Contestants will either need to bring a lunch to the match, or avail themselves of the hot dog stand which be run by one of our junior members. Hot Dogs, Chips, Soft Drinks and Candy Bars will be available for a very nominal fee from this fine young entrepreneur.

• Each competitor will be provided with a packet at site registration. It will include COF descriptions, a map of the range, a match schedule and information on some of the prizes to be distributed in accordance with IDPA rules. We do intend to give away three guns (two for contestants and one for match staff), some gunsmith services as well as other hardware and software items. All local, state and federal laws will apply.

• Of the 9 bays to be used for the ten stages, two have roof structures for cover and four have weather shelters to protect from rain and wind. There will be a large covered area for competitor and guest relaxation. Bring your chairs.

• We may chronograph at random.

• Safety Officers and Match Staff will shoot either Saturday or Sunday and compete for overall place.

• Check this website after October 8 for COF descriptions.

From what I can tell there are 6-8 guys that are pretty good IDPA'ers that are coming to the match. From what I've heard, any one could take the match. A really good IDPA shooter and his buddys are coming down from WA. I think he will be shooting ESP or SSP. We have two guys shooting CDP who are multi-time state champs from CA.

I think the squads will be pretty small so I doubt everyone will get to squad with very many other shooters, but it should go fairly fast.

I'll be running a new gun in ESP if it works well this week. I'm just hoping to learn a thing or two from folks who know how to play the IDPA game.

I'm Expert class and willl be shooting SSP. I'm travelling down with a MA SSP Shooter. A couple of SS SSP shooters and one EX CDP shooter. Should be fun.

L2S: Any idea on what the rough head count for the match is? Thanks!

OK, I spoke to the guys who has the competitor list today and apparently there are 6-8 Masters on his list up so far, I'm not sure if that includes the AK guys or not. There are a few EXP that I guess are supposed to be pretty good also. So if everyone actually shows up, it should be quite a competetive match.

Great match, saw lots of people having a good time. Stages were fun.

Way to go Scott on your performance taking HOA.

Thanks, proof positive shooters with a background in shooting ISPC can adapt to shooting IDPA and do ok. Sort of puts to rest the IDPA vs. IPSC shooting BS that goes on, since it was the 4th time I've shot a real IDPA match.

Hopefully next time you won't have a premature ejection of your pistol from your holster and you can shoot all the stages and kick some butt. :)

Yup. I think alot of the BS is created by middle sized fish trying to appear bigger. Of course, the sharks know that skill will shine through no matter the context.

Great match, fun stages, good shooters, and perfect weather. :)

I'd like to thank Micheal Boyd, Tom Allen, and the rest of the COSSA crew for all the effort they put into running the match.

Sorry, the folks who keep the stats can't figure out how to get them to me in digital format, so they sent me a fax and took a picture.

Scott, once again congrats on the ESP and match win. Matt, I don't know if I said this before but congrats on the SSP Division win. Very nice. :-) Lee, won ESP MA and it was nice to meet you and your wife, Holly. I had a very fun squad. I had a blast at my first big match.
