Plunger Tube Pin

has anyone ever had a malfunction when the thumb safety plunger pin was gauled and stuck inside the plunger houseing? :surprise: a friend of mine's edge did that this past weekend. i punched the pin from the slide stop side and replace the defective pin, now the gun is fine.

how often does this happen?

Ive seen rust develop in them and decrease the spring action, or even freeze the pin inside the tube.

I always slap some slideglide on it when Im detail stripping and cleaning.

A comparable sized drill bit powered by your fingers should clean it out and deburr it.

Most aftermarket thumb safety's are too thin and they tend to make the plunger and the plunger tube self destruct. If you look at them closely you will see that the rear pin does not ride in the center of the thumb safety so it tends to pry the plunger tube out. That is why I have an old WWI safety on my carry gun. It works great with the LW lower end.
