slide drop

A few weeks ago there was a thread about dropping the slide on an empty chamber and how it was hard on the sear/hammer engagement areas. I would like to go back and reread that thread, but I'm having trouble finding it. I used the search mode with no luck. Does anyone remember where it was? Thanks in advance for any help.

Searching 101 :surprise:

select all forums if you are not sure where to find your thread.

type slide drop into the keyword window.

second thread in the results list is the one you want.

It's just as hard on the sear if you shoot the gun dry & the slide doesn't lock back.

If your gun is set up to not lock back, you can load a dummy round in the mag first for practice. That way it is the last round chambered.

For a match i'd use all live rounds ;)

Thanks Wide45. That was exactly the one I was looking for. There is a lot more involved than "just don't do it" and for people who want a full understanding of the workings and physics going on, that answer comes up a little short. Not trying to come across rude to Lynn , but there needs to be understanding of what happens and why. Thanks again.

Actually, it isn't. The trigger is still back when the slide goes forward during normal cycling, so the sear isn't connected. It's still pretty hard on the lugs, but it shouldn't harm the sear.
