John Heiter
I have and use some of these. I knew they wouldn't stop a determined person, but I wasn't thinking they would be quite this easy to bypass. http://stadium.weblogsinc.com/engadget/vid...lock%20security

splashdown
Thanks for that Lynn. A friend of mine just bought a "cheap" safe from one of those big box stores. I think he paid $200 and it's probably about a 2 ft cube. His safe probably has similar internals to the one on the link you posted. It sucks to the the bearer of bad news, but I think I'll show him the link so he can decide for himself whether he's comfortable keeping his valuables and pistol inside. I tried talking him into a better safe, but he didn't want to spend the money.
standles
Just go over and do a demo for him. Of course when it opens just pocket the contents and head for the door.
taxlawmax
Wow. Thanks for the link to the KGB site, Lynn. I'm moving down to Miami, and I know a jeweler friend there who promised to school me on safes when I get down there. He says you can save a ton of money by getting the used one. The only problem is that you end up spending a ton of money getting the thing to your house if it's far away!
toowide
We had one of those safes and the solenoid went out. Cost us $184 to have it drilled. Now it is a 150 pound paper weight. This info is good to know.
