Sti "slide Lightening Cuts" On A 6" Slide.....any Photo

As you can probably tell, all the posts about a 6" fat free and the like has got me pondering a new 6" pistol.

I saw on the STI webpage under slides and then the options that they offer on each slide besides the serrations, sight cuts, flat top / tri-top, is Slide lightening for an additional $60. My question is does anyone have a photo of what the lightening cuts look like and where there at?

Also on a side note, what do the various slides weigh?

Standard 5"

Standard 6"

6" with the lightening cuts

Thanks for all the help, and putting up with all my mundane questions.

I called STI a while back and asked them the same question. I was told that "slide lightening" was done only on open guns, and consisted of lopping off the material where your rear sight would normally go. So if you are asking in reference to a limited gun, you might want to look elsewhere. There are a number of gunsmiths who lighten slides, though, as previously mentioned.

These are pics of my gun in the white as a work in progress.

It's a 6" STI Built and slide lightened by Neil Allen.

Since these, I've sent it off to Tripp to have is finished and hard chromed.

I'll try to get new pics soon.

Cool - the way he did the angle cuts on either side of the flat top gives it sort of a "desert eagle" look.

That was everyone's first thought too.

How much does that slide weigh now?

5" classic slides are about 12.5 oz.

Bennie gets the 6" fat free slides about the same..

I weighed it against a 5" Dawson Patriot, and they were pretty darn close.
