bountyhunter
My netscape browswer started barking and sputtering Wednesday...jerking and stuttered when I dragged the cursor or moved stuff. Tried re-booting, no cigar. Today the browser did this: Open window, works fine for about 60 seconds and them locks up dead tight. Have to use the task manager, won't respond takes five minutes to clear the screen. Waste another five minutes every tinme I open another window. I can't get the browser to work. I tried downloading all the latest updates.... no help. Tried uninstalling and reloading... didn't work. Finally, uninstalled and killed all the previous preference folders and reloaded the browser from scratch and it started working. The net search said there was some kind of valentine's day virus released. Sounds like what ate my browser. BTW: I am certainly not dumb enough to open any suspicious emails. The web sites say some of these are transmitted just by visiting a web site. I daily only visit three: Brian Enos forum Kawasaki Forum Political Crossfire forum Watch Your ass..... Putty
If you can get to it go here... http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm and run the full safety scan. Then dump netscape.
bountyhunter
I also have Internet Explorer..... that's the "officially approved" browser that gets monitored by the company spyware (and can't visit sites like this) Netscape is the one that is one the "free" side of the firewall..... hence, may have been able to be bitten. Anyway, I got Netscape working finally by completely scrubbing and reloading. Edited February 17, 2007 by bountyhunter
