This may sound like a stupid question, but will the 550 drop powder when a case isn't present? I'm this () close to getting a RL550B. I just have a few questions.

No it will not. No mess from dropped powder if you cycle the press with no case under the powder drop.

The primed shell case pushes up on the powder drop. No shell case in the station, no powder. And with the powder safety bar in place, the chance of a squib load greatly decreased.

The 550 is a great press. Only reason not to get it is you have your heart set on one of Dillon's higher dollar presses.

Use Brian's easy buy option. You get everything you need except bullets, primer, and powder.

No. The powder drop is triggered by contact with the case. If there's no case there, no powder is dropped.

I love my 550B. It was the right choice for me.
