outerlimits
dumb question, but does remington make an 1100 barrel that will chamber both 2 3/4" and 3" shells? i understand the receiver must handle 3" to shot 'em, but i thought i've seen barrels chambered for either. Patrick Sweeney
Yes, they made barrels for both lengths. The 3" guns will take (supposedly) barrels of either length chamber. However, the production tolerances can wander over millions of guns and decades of manufacturing, so it may be a tight fit in some combos. In the real world the 1100 is approaching 1911 status: ubiquitous and needing hand-fitting for any change.
Intel6
The difference in the two are that the 3" version only has one gas port while the 2 3/4" has two. The 3" barrel will chamber and shoot a 2 3/4" but it most likely won't cycle. This is why they came up with the 11-87. They made a compensating gas system so the gun could shoot both and still cycle.
