European Export Laws

Hi,

I have some friends of my parents who will be coming over to the States from Europe later this year. They have offered to bring, or send, me one of the Merkle cylinder releases. While I know that it is not against US import laws i was curious if anyone knew what the European/German export laws are? It would seem that there is something because the manufacturer won't ship them here. Anybody know if it would be legal to personally ship or bring this part from Germany?

Obviously the "it's such a small part nobody would notice or know what it is" applies but I want to stay away from that and try to figure out if it's totally legit.

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Jason,

I live in Italy but the law is the same of Germany, the cylinder release is not essential firearms part and is possible to buy and ship without problems.

The problems is for buy and ship the cylinder, barrel, ant the frame.

Contact Mrs Sylvia Merkle before you go in Germany because the Artrade thumb latch is out of stock in date 07/05.

Best, Igor

Hi Jason,

Igor was faster....;)

As Igor wrote, there´s no prob for not essential Gun Parts (as Frame, Cylinder/Slide or Barrel). You can buy or own them and "export" them in Germany without any restrictions.

Best regards,

Sascha

US customs/import laws allow for importation of small non-serial number parts.

It goes something like this, From the ATF Form 6:

9. Under Arms Export Control Act regulations in 27 CFR 47.41©, a

permit is not required for the importation of:

a. U.S. Munitions Import List articles from Canada not subject to 27

CFR Part 178 and 179, except articles enumerated in Categories I,

II, III, IV, VI(e), VIII(a), XVI, and XX; and nuclear weapons, <snip>

b. Minor components and parts of Category I(a) firearms, except

barrels, cylinders, receivers (frames) or complete breech

mechanisms, when the total value does not exceed $100 wholesale

in any single transaction. The $100 wholesale value supersedes the

previous dollar threshold of $500 wholesale in any single transaction.
