  1. Censorship is most certainly the answer....... I still have my tinfoil hat on and am not totally convinced it's legit. In searching I've found no threads about who was there or where it was or anything. Seems counter to how other events usually go. It popped up, we all freak out. Who took the video? How about some facts rather than opinions?
  2. What's the issue in the video? I don't want to waste 20 minutes of my life watching it. I have a 930Jm on order....tick tick tick.... For the amount that I shoot these days it should be a great value but I won't be as excited if I have to run expensive ammo. Jason
  3. Well I think the final answer is that the cases are not being sized properly, they are too long at the shoulder. There were no marks on the neck or bullet. My die and press were setup properly, solid contact between the shell plate and die. I was resizing on my 650. The handle is caming over properly but it's not going far enough. So whether that is the die or the press I don't know. I took the easy way out, I ground a few .001 off the bottom of the die, problem solved. I can adjust the die to size the brass .002 shorter than my Go gauge. Now I just have to resize the 5000 cases I had "ready" to go I started in checking each case in a chamber gauge but too many needed to be resized so I think its quicker to just run everything through the press again.....sigh. Thanks for the all help, Jason
  4. The sizing die is down as far as it can go, it does cam over. that's why I am wondering if I need to go small base. I have a headspace gauge and it looks like the troublesome rounds are only 2-3 thousandths long. There doesn't seem to be much margin for error, less than other types of rifles I have loaded for. Jason
  5. the brass has been reloaded just this once since trimming. There don't appear to be be any rifling marks on the bullet. I did the black sharpie trick and the only shiny spot is right on or just behind the shoulder of the case. Everything else stays black. The OAL is correct as I far as I can tell. jason
  6. Hi, So I am having a problem with my AR. It would appear that I have a problem with my reloads. a few of them won't go into battery and then they won't come out. At the last match I had to resort the butt strike on the ground to get them out. It does seem to be happening with only my 69 grain bullets though. The 55's have yet to do this and all the brass came out of the same bucket. It's a mixture of range pickup and once fired military. all the brass was run though a Forster full length sizer in my 650 with it set all the way down with good solid contact on the shell plate. It was trimmer on my Giraud trimmer. Could it be that some brass was stretched out further and didn't resize to where I want it? The upper is an assemblage of parts, second hand bushmaster upper, new DPMS bolt and carrier, and a for now unnamed high quality barrel. The gun is clean. So here's what I know. I got a Forster headspace gauge and the stripped bolt closes on the GO gauge. I don't have a no-go but that doesn't seem to be the issue. I have a Stoney Point comparator gizmo that goes on your caliper to measure at various radii that I have been measuring things with. The GO gauge measures at 1.450. The brass that doesn't fit measures at 1.543. most of my other brass measures at 1.450 and so does some commercial stuff I have. Is that .003 causing me all my grief? So what do I do? Is that a normal chamber length? Do I need to switch to a small base die and knock those shoulders back some more? Do I send it back to the barrel manufacturer an see what they think, maybe touch up the chamber? I'm not sure what's normal and which way to jump. Thanks, Jason
  7. I just pulled mine apart and I can tell you the barrel starts at 5lbs for the stripped barrel. the 6 inches off the front should knock off almost a full pound at the end of the gun. A friend of mine calculated this: Density of 416 SS is 7750Kg/cu.m = 0.28#/cu.in Volume of the barrel (including bore) is 0.60132 cu.in/inch of barrel .28#/cu.in x 0.60132 cu.in/in =0.1684#/inch of barrel This looks right to me. =0.1684#/inch of barrel .1684#/in x 6" of barrel= 1.01 pounds 24" barrel weighs 4.04# 18" barrel weighs 3.03# 24" gun weighs 13.19# 18" gun weighs 12.18# (8% less) It might be off a little since I think I told him the diameter of the 6 inches was .940 instead of the actual .92x. I believe that his calculations are based on a straight cylinder. Jason
  8. Thanks Mr Hill! It does look cool that way. Wakel, did you shorten the barrel too? Hard to tell with the comp but it looks like you did. Thanks, Jason
  9. So I have an LR-308 with a 24" bull barrel that isn't good for much except holding down the safe so I was thinking about a few modifications, it could be a fun 3-gun gun. First would be the barrel shortened to 18" and turned down to .750. One issue is the gas system. This has a rifle length system and if I chop it down the gas block will be just a few inches from the end, would that affect function? Are the gas blocks on a 308 "special" or just the right size? (.940? in this case) If I have that part turned down can I just get the right size AR gas block that fits? (.750 is the plan) How about gas tubes, are they a different diameter than .223 gas tubes? (now I'm jut being lazy I could go pull them apart and look) Any other thoughts on this? Thanks, Jason

  14. And it looks like the bad ones are still out there. I just got one two days ago and it's got a visible sharp edge on the inside of the insert. Sigh. They better not make me send it back, I'm calling tomorrow. Jason

  18. As an another L4-5 victim I can feel your pain. I had the joy of the physical therapist pointing out that I didn't just have pain but it was making my foot drop also, that was a great revelation "nerve damage", talk about freak out. Fortunately PT helped me and I avoided surgery but I have a nightly appointment with the floor for abs and stretching. I'm not sure what you do for work, but as you know the with the down low injuries sitting tends to be a bad bad thing. I am lucky enough to work for a great company and they retrofitted my cube with electrically adjustable legs so I can stand most of the day but have the option to sit when needed. WorkRite Ergo This company is the bomb but you'll have to sell you most expensive race gun or two to pay for it. they sell complete desks or they sell the leg kits to fit under an existing top. Jason
  19. also our local paper had this picture on most of the front page of the local section: "Austin Hayes of Morro Bay, right, competes Sunday against Louis Surgi of Missouri in the limited class of the single elimination one-on-one speed shooting contest at the 18th Annual Smith & Wesson International Revolver Championship, which took place Friday through Sunday at the Hogue Action Pistol Range off Highway 1 north of San Luis Obispo" Way to go juniors!! They also had: "Neil Hogue of Paso Robles reacts to being knocked out of a competition." Jason
  20. I have the CR speed belt and they have velcro all the way around and I got some sticky backed velcro tape and put that on the inside of the metal clip, no more slipping. I have been running them that way for several years. Jason
  21. The Trip Tip should be a great match if you want to see production shooters. It was formerly the West Coast Dual Championship a few years ago and was Production and SS only. Many of the top production shooters came for that and we are hoping the will come back this year. Jason
  22. That 7th and 8th round are nice for the stages with steel. "Six shot friendly" usually means "six shot possible (don't miss)". JAson
  23. For the match staff I would like to thank all the shooters and RO's who braved the heat to make this such a successful match. This was the first time any of us here had ever tried to put on a match of this size and it's nice to hear all the positive comments from the shooters. Sorry about the heat, getting that hot here is almost unprecedented, unfortunately the fog rolled in a day late and it is foggy and 55 this morning. Thanks, Jason
  24. hi, there will be BBQ and water available, not sure if it's going to be Tri-tip or hot dogs at this point but there will be food and water available. Town is about 10 minutes away if you want fast food or gourmet seafood. Bring hats and sunscreen and warm clothes, the temperature can range from 50-80 depending on the fog and can vary that much during the day. Jason
