Hey All,

Made my way to this site by way of the firingline forums.I've been shootin a long time, but never in comp.I would like to learn more about the different types of competitions.I dont know all the acronyms either so bare with me.I own number of hand guns.the two i would more then likely use would be springfield 1911-A1 and a glock 19 both stock guns.I'm not looking to be a champ just have fun and be a more competent marksman.I live in Nj.so anyone in my area feel free to give me a heads up on things going on in NJ.Thanks all

Welcome to the forums, American4guns. Lots of neat stuff here, and pretty cool folks, as well.

For just your Glock, (and for something fairly basic) try http://gssfonline.com/.

For shooting on the move, there's http://idpa.com/, and (my favorite) http://uspsa.org/.

There is also revolver at http://www.icore.org/ and cowboy action shooting at http://www.sassnet.com/.

The sites above should have club finders that will direct you to matches in your area. Or you can browse the pistol match announcements here, but those are major matches - the club level is the best way to start out.

There's lots more. Browsing here will turn up other stuff you can do with your pistols (and long guns if you have any).

If you are interested to try USPSA/IPSC shooting, seeing how you live in NJ you should join us at one of our introductory/practice matches at Old Bridge. We welcome new shooters and give them an introduction to the game and then pair them up with one of the regulars for a simple 4 stage match. Our indoor matches are every first and third friday of the month. Send me an PM if you need more details.

This is a great site! I spend most of my web time here and have learned more here than anywhere else. What I appreciate the most here is that (for 99.99% of the time) just about everyone behaves like grown ups here. Stuff that goes on at other sites almost never occurs here. I try to adhere to the "shut my mouth, open my ears" philosophy here since I am pretty new to the competition game myself. Welcome aboard.
