Painting Barrels?

Recommended Posts

I'm exploring painting our fleet of barrels to aid in scoring and improve esthetics. Interested in any experience and advice on this topic. This may go without saying, but I'd like to keep the cost and labor as minimal as possible while still achieving a durable result.

What surface preparation is absolutely necessary (e.g., washing, sanding, priming, etc.)?

What kind of paint (e.g., water-based, oil-based, latex, acrylic, etc.)?

Where to source bulk paint?

Any tips or shortcuts?

Thanks in advance,

Beaker

Other than washing them to make sure there’s no dirt or debris on them I don’t think any other prep work is necessary.      I think latex based would be best for plastic barrels. Maybe buy a cheap spray gun rig from harbor freight or something like that and buy the paint by 5 gallon buckets to reduce cost and make it easier and faster to paint them.
