The STI Trubor is not "illegal" to own in CA, the problem is that any new guns sold must be declared "safe" by the powers that be. This means that manufacturers must submit all models of their guns for drop testing, etc and get on the "approved" list. The list is here: http://justice.doj.ca.gov/safeguns/safeguns.asp Unfortunately STI abandoned us here in CA because they're afraid of lawsuits or something dumb like that. They used to have the Trojan and the Edge on the approved list, but they let their approval expire.

If a gun is not on the list, then you cannot buy one new or buy one used from out of state. The only way to get one is from someone that already has one in the state via a Private Party Transfer (PPT) always through an FFL. There is a possiblity that if someone moves into the state they can bring any handguns they own into the state. See here: http://caag.state.ca.us/firearms/ab991.htm

Of course (as mentioned above) it would be silly to buy an open gun and not have highcap mags for it. However I'm sure you already bought some of these prior to the CA high cap ban in 2000.

I heard you could do a private party transfer , from out of state, on a used gun even if it wasnt on the list. You just cant buy it from a dealer out of state. I know several people who have done this. And did it legally by sending it to a dealer in California and registering the gun in their name. Or whatever they call it. Sometimes its a gun and sometimes its a frame. If its not supposed to be done , well , its being done.
