Russty
Cheap front strap checkering! I bought Wilson Combat's 100B checkered frontstrap for my 1911 and it worked great. I bought another for my Ruger Mark III and it works awesome! You need to bend it a bit and really press it down on the edges (I used the handle of the screwdriver I removed the grips with) before tightening the grip back on. The results are custom! SteelCityShooter
Cheaper still is a strip of skateboard tape cut to fit. I've fitted skateboard tape strips to both the frontstrap and backstrap of my MkIV
Russty
Do you replace the tape every time you clean the gun? Or, do you not take it down to clean?
SteelCityShooter
No, skateboard tape has a pretty strong adhesive and as long as I don't drench it in solvent it stays put. I do "field strip" the gun for cleaning meaning removing the receiver/barrel from the frame and removing the bolt. I certainly don't disassemble the receiver routinely. Occasionally I spray the receiver out with Birchwood-Casey "Gun Scrubber", let it dry and relube but the tape stays in place.
