Seating Plug Adjustment

Recommended Posts

Ren,

The tread on the die (assuming not a Square Deal) is 7/8 x 14. That means 14 theads per inch or 1/14 inch per thread or 0.071" per thread. Having said that, put some sort of reference mark on the die, turn it one revolution, secure it and make a dummy round (make sure there is a case under the sizing die to add the normal resistance) and measure it. That's what your press does.

If you are going to be messing around with OAL a lot, you might want to look into a Redding Competition Seating Die that has a micrometer that you can zero to a reference length and then adjust in +/- 0.001" increments off that length. Makes it easy since you don't have to deal with the slop that you get when you loosen the lock nut.

Have fun,

Chuck
