Magnum Research .22 Switchbolt/Laminated Stock Initial Review

While selecting parts for my Deep Six chassis build, I attempted to use the absolute lightest parts. Here is some of the lightest 10/22 parts. This is by no means a complete comprehensive list.

 

Lightest 10/22 Receivers:

Volquartsen Superlite receiver at 6.00 ounces

Brownells BRN-22 Stripped (Non-Railed) receiver at 6.40 ounces

F.J. Feddersen Aluminum Alloy receiver at 7.10 ounces

Kidd Classic Slip Fit receiver at 8.00 ounces

Tactical Innovations Elite22 receiver at 8.30 ounces

CST Centrix-22 receiver at 8.34 ounces

Brownells BRN-22 Stripped (Railed) receiver at 8.40 ounces

 

Lightest 10/22 bolts:

Volquartsen Firefly bolt at 2.89 ounces

CST Power Custom Match bolt at 5.78 ounces

Kidd bolt (scalloped) at 6.40 ounces

Volquartsen Competition bolt at 7.00 ounces

 

Lightest 10/22 16” barrels:

Wiland barrel at 10.5 ounces

Briley “Raptor” Ultralight barrel at 11.4 ounces

Magnum Research 17” Magnum Lite Graphite barrel at 13.0 ounces

Tactical Solutions X-Ring Performance barrel at 12.7 ounces

Volquartsen Ultralite Carbon Fiber barrel at 15.0 ounces

Kidd Ultra Lightweight Fluted Bull barrel at 20.0 ounces

Proof Research Bull barrel at 25.0 ounces

 

Lightest 10/22 Trigger Assemblies:

Ruger OEM trigger with plastic housing and Brimstone Tier 1 job is at 5.13 ounces

Kidd Single Stage trigger is at 7.10 ounces

Trigger right now is really decent. Every bit as good or better than the BX I have in my Ruger. Will wait for them to develop the after market mag release. Not a critical flaw in SC for mag changes, just a pain.

FYI Magnum Research will have an extended Mag release that will work with there trigger out soon.  Sorry it has taken so long.

I actually made one out of a TK Fireswitch extended mag release. Works fine for now. With the ammo shortage we have been shooting more .22 run & gun matches and the button release wasn't cutting it. Tried a stock Ruger 10/22 release and it was better. This was a rough fitting, tried it in a couple of SC matches to make sure it held the mags tight & in place. Still need to re-finish it.
