Popple Holes?

I am confused on popple holes. Wouldn't it be the same as a shorter barrel? At least the violent feeling? Or does it work like a comp but only pushes down?

I have read a ton of threads about them but none really explain the reason behind it. Just trying to figure out as I am buying my first open gun.

It works kinda like a comp. It helps push straight down but does act like a shorter barrel as far as powder charge is concerned. I have a 5" sti in 9major and have a Bedell comp with 2 - 3/16" popple holes and it shoots very flat but is exceptionally loud and obnoxious. But it works good for me. Ymmv.

I have a V6 popple holes (5.5" barrel) and 4 chamber compensator, it shoots way flatter with the same bullet then my other compensated barrel (5.5" barrel) open gun without popple holes. I also noted that their power factor is very close to each other and the V6 red dot optics is easier to track for follow-up shot. I highly recommend popple holes for open gun.
