Shooting steel indoors would do quite a bit of damage no?

I have seen all of this stuff to include tires put around plates. This ain't Europe where we have to hide our activities from everybody and get super creative with indoor ranges. These indoor ranges look nothing like the concrete rooms I shoot in on rare occasions.

Then you already know how to reduce damage shooting steel indoors.

There are ways to mitigate that. My local club runs an indoor friday night match and they use steel. We have these 3 piece steel shields, basically 2 sides an a hat about 18" wide and they fit about 2 mini poppers or hinged plates under them. Those things have been there since before I started shooting USPSA, so 14+ years and still work.

You can see one of them towards the end of this video, on the right, with one plate and one mini popper.

"or in any other direction, specified in the written stage briefing by the match organizers as being unsafe."

What does the written stage briefing say? Would seem standard practice for MD's of indoor matches to include that any shot not striking the backstop is an unsafe shot.
