Extended on Glock?

When I found USPSA all I had was a Glock 19. 6 months later I bought a Beretta 92G Elite II. It has trigger work by Tom Novak and a Dawson fiber optic front sight.

Now I'm determined to switch to a .40 so I can shoot production, limited and L10. I'm almost dead set on the Glock 35, but I'd prefer the G22 if I could legally use an extended mag release. One major setback is the fact that Glock does not have an ambi or reversible mag release. It is for this reason that I am starting to think about another Beretta. I want a G model with extended mag release, beveled magazine well, and dovetailed front sight. Given the issues with breaking stainless extractors, I'm leaning toward the G-SD. Ugh, that means I need a new holster too. Darn it.

Sometimes I shoot my HK P7 M13 just for fun. At least it started out as "just for fun" then I look at my classifier scores and my highest is with my P7.

Thanks Nik,

Now please tell me why. I've asked Amidon twice (once for me, and once because I was arguing about it with someone) and I first got an "illegal" and then I got a "legal". Which is it?

Appendix D4, IPSC Production Div:

19. Original parts and components offered by the OFM as standard equipment, or as an option, for a specific model handgun on the IPSC approved handgun list, subject to:

19.1 Mods to the parts prohibited

19.2 Base plates that add capacity are prohibited

19.3 Front sights may be trimmed/sight black applied.

US Appendix D9, USPSA Prod Div:

21.5 External modifications other than sights not allowed.

The US Appendix does not include the OFM parts clause and Amidon said they specifically left it out of the US rules.

I want it to be true. That way I could also use Beretta Elite II magazine pads (do not add capacity) on a Beretta of another flavor. I'd like to add the extended mag/slide release to a G22. Please tell me why it's legal and where I can go to see the final official word.

thank you

splash,

we now have a gun list, that simply lists Glock 17, or 22 or 35. The guns are available in a variety of configurations from the factory --- fixed sights, adjustable sights, night sights, standard releases, extended releases, etc. If it's available from the factory that way --- it's legal. If I'm wrong about this, there's a boatload of Production shooters from the last two nats who would've been moved to open division......

Splash,

I think it's more of a "innocent until proven otherwise" situation. The extended slide and mag release are Glock O.E.M. parts and are not specifically prohibited, so they're legal, as are the factory base pads for the Beretta and (now the new) CZ.

Regards,

Todd

I just picked up a Springfield XD, and talked to Rich at Canyon Creek about some of the things he can do with it, including the extended magazine release. His answer was basically this (if I understood him correctly).

What he does is modify the existing magazine release so it sticks out farther on the left side, and less far on the right side. As such, it's using the same stock magazine release, and is actually an internal modification to the gun, and not an external one.

I don't know how or if this applies to the Glock, but this was the logic behind this type of modification on the Springfield XD, according to Rich.
