Yes, one plays IDPA and the other plays USPSA. Having a high rank doesn't make you a good instructor nor does being an instructor mean you're a good shooter., yes, and that also. The OP has to decide which game he wants to be good at. My point is that newbies need to learn how to shoot first, then worry about gear.... otherwise they change everything out on the new Glock, then it won't run at all. I am a lowly SS but I have helped a few guys make significant improvements for no charge. I tell them I will help them all they want until they beat me twice. At that point they are on their own...
