musso
i have a Dillon trim die in .223 carbide version. it is leaving vertical lines in the neck does anyone have any idea whats happening? Edited May 7, 2015 by musso
dillon
Clean the interior of the die using an ammonia-based solvent, then apply some case lube to the interior of the die, from both ends. See if that corrects this. If not, then contact Dillon so the die can be sent to us for inspection. Usually this is caused by brass buildup, but might be some diamond dust polishing residue imbedded in the carbide. Usually the solvent will wash this away. Brassaholic13
Whatever case lube you're using is insufficient, which is causing brass to gall in the die neck.

mcracco
It happens on occasion regardless of the amount of lube. When it happens I run a dry Q-Tip around the interior of the dies and esp. up around the shoulder area. Then a shot of air from the bottom. That has always cleared it for me. Holy Mother of all Splines I just looked at your pic. They never showed us that in school. That could not have started all at once. Has to be some serious brass galling in the neck of the die that has to be visible from the windows. I now agree with the other posters; not enough lube and use a copper solvent to clean it up.
