rboyes
I need some help removing a handguard from my JP 308. Of course the 6 screws are out, but the handguard won't budge from the outer aluminum nut. I've been using the heat gun on it and a strap wrench, but still nothing. I really don't want to have to cut a perfectly good handguard off in order to change a barrel.
Dan Sierpina
Try clamping the handguard in a vice and use a soft hammer to hit the barrel. Sounds like some Loctite got into someplace it shouldn't be.
grouse
Lightly tap the bipod stud with a hammer while the upper is in the block
Doug H.
I hold the barrel in my hand and put rotational force on the tube. The hand guard should start to walk out towards the muzzle. In addition a little more heat at the adapter end may help, especially if there is locktite involved. Doug
rboyes
Got it off- turns out there was no loctite. Rather, they used a thin metal shim sandwiched between the handguard tube and the aluminum nut it mounts to. Thanks everyone.
Dan Sierpina
Glad you didn't have to cut it off.
