amateur
Hello, I already have a .38super open and now that my son is beginning to enjoy the sport, I am planning to give him his own because we take turns shooting mine during a match. He enjoy shooting steel. I have a series 70 Colt Combat Commander in 9MM. If I am going to convert this to an open gun, what are your recommendations regarding compensator and barrel. Is there a ready to fit comped barrel for a 9MM Commander? Thanks
wide45
Are you only going to shoot steel?
amateur
Yes it is for steel only.
Patrick Sweeney
I don't know that you'll find a commander barrel threaded and comped (or just threaded) ready to go. You will probably have to re-fit a threaded government barrel. If you plan to do the work yourself, be aware that the lower lugs differ in profile between the commander and government barrels. So in addition to threaded the barrel further back, you'll have to match the commander profile.
BrianH
You might try KKM for a barrel. His price list has a threaded commander barrel, but it is a bull barrel with a ramp, so you're into more work there.
Flexmoney
You might just slap on a dot and be done with it. I would certainly give it a solid try without putting on a comp (for a minor steel gun).
BrianH
Judy Wooley shot minor/scope/no comp several years and won the SC several times.
