SGDM
If anyone is looking for a new AR barrel, I would highly reccommend Metalcraft Specialties. Barry builds 'em out of Krieger blanks and his attention to detail and craftsmanship are the best I have seen. I had build me an 18" fluted and the gun shoots 1/2 MOA at 100 m! Flexmoney
What are the pros and cons of going with an 18" barrel?
Mickster
I had a 16" barrel fail to make minor by 9fps with PMC factory .223 at a 3-gun match. The 18" may be handy like the 16" and make USPSA minor easily. Just a thought.
kellyn
You get a full length gas system with an 18in barrel and all the beniefts thereof: greater reliability, less bounce during recoil, full length sight radius. I love the 18 in barrel. I have one on my open gun.
Flexmoney
Can I hack down a 24in. barrel to 18? (and recrown)
rkgsmith
Flex, I cut my 24 down to 20 and lost nothing. Make sure your "smith" cuts a nice crown and you'll be good to go.
Carlos
Flex: if its a SS or if it is non-chrome lined steel, then any competent smith can do it for you. Chrome lined is another story. Who made the barrel?
Flexmoney
Carlos, I start another thread on that gun...don't want to hijack this one.
