Magazine Baseplate SP01

Hopefully this isn't to newbie of a question but I kinda am, what role does the baseplate serve that I need to get Springer or someone else baseplates to replace factory baseplates. I did buy the springers but that was just taking advice besides using it to extend your mag why? I would like to understand the mechanics of it as mags for my sp01 have been a bad issue lately, nose-down issues. I have bought nickel mags and +10 springs now no issues so far.

The longer base pads assist in seat the mag, as opposed to the flush fitting mags, especially if you have large meaty hands. The ~0.5oz additional weight also helps them drop easier. Lastly, the alloy pads are more durable.

I have basepads from Springer and Stoeger Pro Shop. Both are great. For me it was a question of durability. Nothing like kicking, stepping on, and dropping the mags on gravel, sand, concrete, etc to break a plastic basepad.
