Primers getting tweaked in Dillon 550

Recommended Posts

OK I have had my 550 for 2 months and suddenly the primers for .223 are getting totally tweaked about half the time. It isn't the pocket as I have hand primed the ones that the 550 is tweaking. It feels ilike the primer bar is smooth but when I press down to load the primer will make a click or snap sound. Help!

Just to clarify, you know for certain the pockets are not crimped? Hand priming and priming on the machine will give different results on crimped pockets I suspect.

Does the primer cup come up through the hole smoothly when there is no brass on the machine? If it does it would seem to be the brass that is causing the issue. If it is hanging up even on an empty press then you can try loosening the primer assy and realigning it or the whole platform may have worked loose and gotten out of alignment.

Did you do or change anything with the press just before this started happening? sometimes a seemingly unimportant change can cause issues with Dillons.
